    Hello all, SECOND time poster.

Can I count myself as a resident doctoral student if I have attended a residency in psychology? It was only a small residency, but I think it sounds appropriate, yet when I say it another way it seems as if I am different than what I am...training to be, not a real doctoral psychology resident. What do you all think?

You asked this question about a week ago -- in fact, identically-worded -- in this thread. No one replied at that time... possibly because they might have thought it was a joke question.

Assuming it's not... my answer is "no, you may not." A single residential course as part of an otherwise distance learning (or by some other means non-residential) program does not a residential student make. Or so it is my opinion.

Or have I misunderstood the question? If so, please clarify.

    Hopefully others will chime-in.

    Thank you

Thank you...I really did not think so, but I do wonder when I would be considered as such.

I also think though, that even if it was thought of as a joke, we all should understand that some people do come here for an answer to a question that is VERY likely that they will not get an answer to somewhere else.

Thanks anyhow, I really do appreciate it.

    Re: Thank you

And you should understand that DegreeInfo has many enemies -- most of them diploma mill operators (or, if not, then operators of unaccredited schools that are nevertheless difficult to distinguish from diploma mills) and/or those sympathetic thereto -- who routinely come in here and posture and perform for their buddies in other forums... forums populated, in largest measure, by those who have been thrown outta' here at one time or another.

Even if a new poster here has good intentions, if his/her question is perceived -- even if mistakenly -- as not serious, or as potentially some kind of bait to cause an argument or to trick a member here into posting something they later regret, it's not uncommon for said members here to just ignore it and let the thread fall off the front page of listed threads, and down into the archives. I'm not saying that that's what happened in your case. I'm just saying that that's sometimes what happens.

Anyway, given the seeming desperation of your thread title, I'm glad you've been able to get at least one opinion. Hopefully others will still chime in with theirs.

Oh... and welcome, by the way. Sorry I forgot to say that in my initial reply.

Seems to me you could say, "Doctoral student [part residential, part on-line]" If anyone asked specifically how much of each, of course you would tell them.

As a clinical social worker I have worked with numerous doctoral students. I have actually never heard the term "doctoral psychology resident." When I think of the term "resident" I think of physicians. Maybe that's just a U.S. thing. Good luck with your studies! Where are you studying BTW?

    Dr. Bear:

Thank you for the reply. I appreciate it, and have read some of your books, by the way, and am very impressed.

Patsfan, thank you as well. I am studying for a clinical psychology doctorate.

    Thank you all.
