I am looking for any schools that offer reletively low cost (under $150 credit hour) liberal arts classes. I am enrolled in COSC and need 20 liberal art credit hours to meet my graduation requirements. My plan is to take CLEP exams for 9 credits (American Government and Natural Science) and DL classes for the remainder.

You don't specify what level(s) but many community colleges (Indiana and Illinois for sure) have DL liberal arts classes that are $50 per credit hour.

    Ken-
I can personally recommend the Independent Study Program at Louisiana State University at www.is.lsu.edu. I'm on my fourth course from there. They have a multitude of lower level liberal arts classes. There seems to be a dearth of upper level classes, at least in the subjects I'm interested in. :D They cost $229 per class, which works out to ~ $77 per credit hour. They are RA and my home school (Chaminade University of Honolulu) has no problem accepting these classes towards my degree.

When you sign up for the class, they mail you a student outline. The books are your responsibility (as usual), but you can buy your books through the LSU book store on line. That may not be the best source though; as on line book stores may be cheaper (I bought the Introduction to Psychology text book they require on-line at Amazon for $2!). Each class is broken down into several lessons (I've seen anywhere from 12 to 17). Each lesson has a reading assignment and a writing assignment, and for MOST of the classes, you can either mail in the lesson in envelopes provided by the school, or submit them on line. While it isn't a true "on line" class, you can submit your lessons that way, reducing time due to the mail. I understand they also have on line classes, but I haven't taken any of those.

Lastly, I have several friends over here that have taken courses through Indiana University www.iu.edu. From what I understand they are a more expensive than LSU, but the text books are included so it balances out. I haven't personally taken classes at Indiana U., so I can't recommend it.

    Good luck, Ryan
