I have taken courses at 8 going on 9 different colleges and universities. Some as a full-time student, others just one or two classes. I recently applied to couple other graduate programs, and I hated having to buy 3-4 transcripts from each place. Even afterwards, depending on the job or if somehow I decide to do a doctorate, I might have to do the same thing. A couple of questions for the well informed on this board:

    1. Does a company exists that allows a person to consolidate all of their academic work into a single comprehensive transcript?

    2. In the event that this option does exist, what are the chances that schools and employers will acknowledge this transcript as a perfectly legitimate substitute for transcripts from every school?

From everything I've read in this forum, no RA schools accept transcripts from credit banks. What tmarca is asking for is probably the degreeinfo Holy Grail.

Employers might accept credit bank transcripts. Some will apparently accept what's scribbled on the back of a ouija board.

If you think about it, though, there's really no good reason for that. If Excelsior would simply require that all CLEP or DANTES scores be sent directly from the testing agency; and that all coursework transcripts be sent directly from the various institutions, then Excelsior could put, in bold letters, across the top of its Credit Bank consolidated transcript that it, on its honor (so to speak), as a regionally-accredited institution, verified that all credits on said transcript may be relied upon the same as if they had been sent directly from the original testing agencies and/or institutions; and, therefore, there would be just about no reason for any regionally-accredited institution to not trust the consolidated Credit Bank transcript just the same as it would a regular transcript from Excelsior. I mean... why is Excelsior willing to act with the sort of fiduciary responsibility that is expected of it as a regionally-accredited institution with regard to its regular transcripts, but it's not demanding of itself that it do the same with its consolidated Credit Bank transcripts? No wonder no other regionally-accredited institution will accept them. Excelsior does a disservice to its Credit Bank clients by having a double-standard.

I once saw a place accept what was spelled-out by a Ouija board...

...but, then again, it was for a psychic phenomena course, so I guess that makes some sense.

Maybe one of the heavy-hitters knows why this hasn't come to pass but I don't. That fiduciary thing might be the key. It would be great if Excelsior was accepted as clearing house for higher-educational credentials but it may be that no entity will be so trusted.

Your intention in the previous posts are worth merit. However, I disagree with your rationale. There is no way that a place can act as a clearinghouse or as an entity when it comes to handling transcripts. In example, if a student earned credit from another institution and somehow an error was made and it stated that this student had earned credit for something when in fact they didn't -- the original source for credit (that being the original institution where the credit came from), would be the final say not Excelsior. The other issue is that what each institution will accept as credit various. There is also the issue of national v. regional accreditation. Some schools accept it while other don't. The interpretation seems to be my issue with your argument for a clearinghouse.

The credit bank allows courses and training to be listed on a transcript and to be used to send one transcript to a particular source. However, not every institution will accept this same interpretation and there would be more confusion. In other words, Excelsior is doing a service by trying to help people to put all their credits and training on one transcript to potential employers and other for convenience. For them to get into being a voice or final word in credits and such would be overstepping the bounds for what the service is intended for. Even if a person sends this transcript from Excelsior that lists all the credits, tests, and training doesn't mean that the source that receives the information will not still push the envelope to verify this with an original source where the credit or information originally came from. This is why I would do some inquiry to determine whether or not an employer will accept such transcript as valid.

In my opinion, the credit bank would be better off for people who have accumumlated an enormous amount of academic credit and training, and if they don't already have a degree they should get one because it would be the best way to verify your degree and then such would be listed on a transcript. I really think the credit bank should be used in pursuing an academic degree. It may be a nuissance to have to have each source send information to the places that you apply to, or that require information, but it costs much money to go through the credit bank, and there is no guarantee that the source you send it to will honor a transcript from the credit bank.
