According to Barrington's website www.barrington.edu they are a member of AACRAO, which the site calls the American Association of College REGISTRATIONS and Admissions Officers. AACRAO is reputable and well respected, so what is the criteria for membership? Russell
Doesn't the real AACRAO stand for American Association of College REGISTRARS and Admissions Officers? A very subtle difference, and a very sleazy trick if this is the case. Bruce
Institutional membership in the real AACRAO is not open to them. According to AACRAO: "Institutional membership in the American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers (AACRAO) is open to post-secondary degree-granting institutions accredited by an accrediting agency recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA). Membership fees are based on institutional enrollment." It is not likely Barrington is a member. Perhaps one or more of their employees are members. Or perhaps they're members of a different AACRAO. Or perhaps it is a slippery lie. Rich Douglas
Hey Rus, I think the criteria to be a member of the American Association of College REGISTRATIONS and Admissions Officers is quite rigid. The candidate, must also be a member of the International Association of Universities and Schools Cheers, Byran
While the Barrington website does use the title "American Association of College REGISTRATIONS [caps mine] and Admissions Officers," when one clicks on the icon, one is taken to the legitimate AACRAO website. So, if Barrington is not a member, it would appear that either one or more employees is a member, or it is a "slippery lie." Russell
In addition to the full membership, AACRAO have an "affiliate membership category" for state-licensed unaccredited institutions.
They have a former college president (well known and accredited College in New York)either on staff of as a board consultant. They very well may have some one on staff who is an AACRAO member.
I received a response from AACRAO today, stating that Barrington University is an affiliate member, the category for state licensed schools. The e-mail also stated that AACRAO does not endorse or recommend these schools, which I took to mean either pro or con. Russell
Excellent investigative work, Russell. So in other words, Barrington has a nonvoting institutional membership that any state-licensed institution is entitled to providing that the fee has been paid. Mark
I also emailed AACRAO, noting that Barrington used the AACRAO logo, and received this response: ------------------ Kristin Evenson Hirst DistanceLearn.About.com
