I will be sitting for the exam, 2 parts each sitting in April and July before I deploy to Iraq. Anyway, I was wondering if anyone has sat for the exam, and if so, what study guides/methods/courses did you use? Thanks.

I haven't taken it. I took the CMA years ago and had good luck with Person Wolinsky. Unfortunately they were purchased by Becker. Becker seems to have lots of fans. I've reviewed quite a few review courses and I think for the money Lambers is the best I've seen. They include videos, books and software. Each portion is around $200-250.

Here's a forum with lots of discussion on review courses:

The Becker CPA Review still seems to be the largest. Micromash also has a very good program.

I've used the Gleim books for the CPA / CMA / CIA exams and have been very happy with them. I've only used the books, but alot of coworkers found the software very helpful. Micromash gets good reviews also. I think they are all very similiar, and it's more a matter of having a structured approach and putting in the required hours.

    Good luck!

Thanks for the advice. Putting in the time I do indeed plan on doing.

FYI, for those who plan on studying and sitting for the exam, besides Becker material, Gleim CPA Prep materials seem pretty good and they have received good reviews on various forum, but they are not cheap, around $950 for all four parts (Becker is over 2K if I remember correctly). Of course, then you have to pay to sit and pay for each of the four parts. Well, if it were free everyone would be doing it, lol...

Be sure your state board allows you to sit for only two parts.

Way back when I took the exam (1978), Alaska required that all parts not previously passed be taken each time.

When I studied, I liked Irv Gleim's stuff. I used a problem oriented approach. I worked problems after problems and hit the books when I got them wrong. I did not find his outline text that helpful, but I had the most recent Intermediate, Advanced and Auditing texts as references to look things up.

With the internet, that type of reference library may not be necessary.
