I know that the big three as far as portfolio assessment are: TESC, COSC, & Excelsior. My question, are there any schools that accept portfolio assessment for Graduate-Level credit and would TESC, et. al. be the place to have the portfolio assessments done in order to transfer them on to the school that will accept them? Thanks, Mike Gibbs [email protected]
With very, very few execeptions, there is no portfolio assessment for graduate study. There are a few masters programs that will allow you to enter with advanced standing based on prior achievements, but in general, most of the ones that allow advanced standing also require more work than those that *don't* allow advanced standing... so the net result is that you're really in the same place with or without. There are also a couple of situations that I've heard about where the school unofficially "bends the rules" and allows the student to submit previously completed work toward a graduate degree, but these are situations that you must individually negotiate with the admissions people and the actual department with which you'll be working. The schools that allow you to do most or all of your masters or doctorate via portfolio are, almost without exception, bogus programs whose degrees are basically resume time bombs. Sorry I can't offer more useful info! [Note: This message has been edited by Chip]
However, according to some, this is the future of DL so stay tuned. Actually I think that you may find that things in the US will eventually evolve to the point where you will be granted degrees based on "virtual portfolio", i.e. you created a portfolio based on the learning you plan to accomplish over your lifetime and are granted degrees based on forecast accomplishments.
Try Jones International for portfolio graduate work. Need input on USQ. It seems they accept graduate course transfer.
A search at www.google.com turns up: www.cqu.edu.au as the first entry. Google is pretty accurate, and certainly faster than posting onto a bulletin board. Rich Douglas
