    Hi All,

    My girlfriend is working on her Bachelor's in CJA at UOP and I want to help her get a head start on getting into the field in an entry level position before she finishes.

    She wants to be a junior probation officer, and we live in Northern Virginia. I have looked at the VA Department of Criminal Justice, and would be happy if anyone could offer suggestions.

    Also, Bruce, you said you teach for UOP online correct? Just wondering which courses? She is going into "organized crime in Jan/February (the first of the core) it would be cool if you were one of her professors :)

    Yes, I do. The courses I teach/will teach are;

    Contemporary Issues in Criminal Justice
    Introduction to Criminal Justice
    Criminology
    Criminal Law
    Criminal Procedure
    Introduction to Policing
    Criminology and the Criminal Justice System

    I may submit more CAF's in the future, but those are keeping me more than busy for the moment. :cool:

    As for the probation officer job, I don't know how things work in Virginia, but around here, it helps (required) to have a "sponsor", a politician who will grease the skids for you.

    Break out the checkbook. :D

    That's awesome Bruce,

    What do you think about the program so far? (content, challenge for students, applicable to the field)

    I've been very impressed with the course content & rigor, as well as the quality of students. Anyone who says that UoP Online is a cakewalk has never taken any of the courses I teach, I can guarantee that.

    The course requirements are equal to, or more rigorous, than my undergraduate program, and I had 3 more weeks (8 weeks vs. 5 week UoP) to finish!

    As Rich Douglas will no doubt point out (not without good reason), UoP uses Outlook Express newsgroups for their online courses, which some people view as a threat to civilization as we know it. I don't mind it at all, maybe because I'm an old a.e.d. denizen, but I can understand why some people don't like it.
