Okay, I told everyone here that I would post my experience at Southwestern College for those of you looking at this school for future possibilities...such as those of you with DETC credits you would like to transfer to a RA school as in my case....they accepted 100% of my credits.

    On to the journal.

Entrance seminar began and I was forced to become familiar with Blackboard and the online environment at S.C. due to the type of assignments. Everything from post a bio about yourself as an attachment to listing citations in MLA or APA format using their various search engines through their library such as Lexis Nexis. Now I had not used Blackboard before and have always used research articles by either library or Google, thus I was a little nervous at first. No problems though, you are pretty much baby stepped through the process.

The Good: Everyone except the bookstore is literally a phone call away. If you have to leave a message they call you back just like they said they would.

The staff seems to communicate with one another well. I had a question regarding my application packet and asked my advisor to look into it for me. She did, got back with me and then the admissions person called me to discuss it and ask if I had anymore concerns....folks, that's service. I can't even get an admissions counselor on the phone the same day at my local community college.

They reply to your emails, quickly. They walk you through the financial aid process and answer your dumb questions professionally and courteously as if they haven't answered the question a 100 times that day.

The course work was a fairly light load, which is appropriate for beginners.

No funny stuff on the bulletin board like at some schools...all business.

    The Bad:

I really haven't had any complaints thus far.

    The Ugly:

Books are very expensive. For this upcoming course I had to buy 3 friggin' textbooks. OUCH! But hey, this is school and you gotta make sacrifices. The most I've ever bought for a class before was 2. Who doesn't charge a lot for books right?

I will be posting on the upcoming courses in due time.

    Cheers.

just wondering if you are required to buy your books from the college? I know numerous individuals sell them on ebay when they finish their class. They may be used, but the info is the same for way cheaper! I know I sold most of my books on ebay from my associates degree and they sold pretty good! Also, are there any used books stores around your house?
