I am curious about AIU's MBA program. I know AIU is a bit controversial regarding the quality of their program and graduates, but I am still interested in hearing any experiences students may have had from this school, both negative and positive. What courses have you taken and what assignments have you completed? What books/ resources were required for each class? How was the 'team' work? If you are a graduate, would you do it over again?

    Any info would help out

    Thanks!

    Hello!

I did attend AIU for my associates degree in Business administration. I would recommend reading the reports on them at rip off reports.com In the search just type AIU and there will be plenty of negatives.

But on the positive side they do have quite a few things:

They are a little more expensive but:

They are accelerated and you only have to take one or two classes at a time for 5 weeks. I believe the BA and Masters are just one class. Usually after 2 sets of classes you get a week break.

I believe I paid about 266 per credit, BUT that included:

Books which were automatically delivered to my door about a week before class, Microsoft Office, Windows XP Pro Edition, and a few other programs that were needed for some classes.

You interact with disucssoin boards weekly for each class and then typically have 1-2 assignments for the week. Homework is given for the whole class right away but divided up weekly being due Saturdays at midnight. There are group projects which can be horrible, but each member is graded differently and you are give a discussion board and chat room for each one.

They have FREE 24/7 tech support!

They have a HUGE cybrary (library) With cybrarians you can do live chats or email to help find info for homework. There is soooo much in their library from good websites to paid programs and you can log into it for life! It is very organized and even have sections for each class!

I believe the class work is very good and if you have enough self discipline and motivation you can learn a lot. I sold all my books on ebay and all of them sold because they are newer editions being used still!

    There are no tests!

They just changed their online campus last month so now you can even private message classmates and teachers and see when they are logged in.

You do have 2 chat sessoins per week per class, but are NOT mandatory and if you miss they archives are saved so you can still review them.

I guess if you can accept the fact they are for profit and sound like sales people it isn't horribly bad. But I have heard from MANY people and myself that when you first start just about each month you receive a new advisor because your old one was promated, no longer work for AIU or they are just changing around the office and everyone got switched. After a few times it becomes ANNOYING, but half way through they will give you one you keep till you finish.

ANd also I am almost POSITIVE ANYONE is accepted as long as tuition is covered. When I answered the essay questions during pre enrollment I didn't realize it was automatically saved for the advisor to view so mine were NOt complete sentences and just notes typed out. And I was accepted!

    goodluck with whatever you choose!!

On the team work part there is one group project per class. You get one week to work on it and usually are assigned to groups before the starting week! Group projects can be good and bad all depends on whether or not other help out and if they help out early. If someone doesn't help their name is off the paper and no grade for them. Each person has the chance to get their own grade. I have had some horrible ones, but I would have to believe that is expected everywhere. And the GP I did for my associates were pretty easy if everyone helped.

    Melissa,

Were your classes 5 weeks in length? Did you find the workload managable or were you struggling to keep up? Did you usually cover a whole textbook in 5 weeks?

Yes all my classes were 5 weeks in length we got 2 weeks off for christmas. And then after every 2 of 4 sessions (10-20 weeks) You would get a week off.

I just did the associates program I did talk to someone who did the bachelors and I know their work was harder than mine.

For the most part we went through the whole book every now and then we would skip a chapter, but each week you would read 2-5 chapters which can be quite A LOT sometimes. There were weeks where I was reading 200 plus pages and that's just for one class but other weeks it was just 60 pages. Some people would say just read to do the homework but I think that defeats teh purpose of paying tuition.

I was able to keep up the whole time. The classes are accelerated so you will be getting more homework than a regular college. ALL your homework for one class is posted the first day and you get weekly due dates so you can easily move ahead if you want or have the time to I never did. Also in the cybrary they have things called not so dirty cheat guides or something like that. Each class has one and it gives you links or website related to the assignment to help, not many people know they are there.

    I hope this helps! GoodLuck!
