Hello all!! This is a wonderful DB I wish I would have found it sooner!!

I do have some questions for those of you who have went to colleges online.

First of all, I just graduated with my associates degree from AIU. I didn't have any major problems with them at all even though I have many negative things about them. And I believe they are more expensive because the classes are accelerated also they are for profit.

I would like to continue my education onto my bachelors degree in criminal justice!! I don't have any major reasons why not to go back to AIU, but I would prefer to do it at a different school COMPLETELY online. Go to rip off reports.com and search for AIU and then tell me if you would go back there or search them in the better business bureau site they have quite a few complaints.

So I am asking for any advice if anyone has any certain schools they have attended for any degree or CJ. I have looked into quite a few schools the past 2 months and just haven't found one I really like. Most of them seem like sales people when I talk to them on the phone and they assume because I fill out the online form to request more info I want to go to their school, which I am JUSt filling out for more info. AIU was like that also and i really don't want another school like that.

So what I am looking for is an accredited school completely online.
I would greatly prefer ones with accelerated programs so I can just take ONE class at a time and be considered full time. I am a single mother and I also work full time so want to be able to handle and learn and do good in my schooling with my limited time. And also I would like it to be somewhat of a reasonable price. I do not want to pay $425 plus books which is what I found at Ellis, that's just way too high for me.

Also the lady at Ellis told me not all my credits from AIU would transfer if I chose to go there because AIU is quarter credits and Ellis is semester credits (may be the other way around) So they would accept about 70 of my 90 credits, which would be a waste of my money then.

I also looked into Kaplan I do not believe they are accelerated, but look to be a pretty good school otherwise...what does everyone else think? They are $280 per credit including books I believe which isn't too bad.

Also I have looked into CTU which is a little cheaper than AIU being they are "sister" schools. So that kind of steers me away from them. But not sure yet.

And after reading the DB I did look into Fort Hays University but they are not accelerated and I really prefer to do accelerated.

I would prefer a school that employees will know of and that will look good, but at a reasonable price and accelerated classes!

I have done tons of research online and found many schools and information on them, but I think a good way to choose would be hearing from students of the school in the same program!

So if anyone could give me any advice I would greatly appreciate it! Especially those of you who did take a CJ degree online and are now working. :)

With 5-week classes, the University of Phoenix is probably one of the most accelerated programs, but it's also one of the most expensive.

Check my sig line for a pretty comprehensive list of CJ programs available by DL.

Yeah I have heard of them MANY people transfered to AIU from there while I was doing my associates degree. And yes I believe they are like 400 a credit. I will look into what you have listed.

Almost... National University (http://www.nu.edu) is an RA school based in CA, that offers a BS in CJA, 100% online. The vast majority of classes are 4-weeks in length (with an occasional 8-week class thrown in). You take one course per month. So, in an average year, you could complete 12 courses for a total of 54q.u. credits (36s.u.). Not too shabby. Plus, National is much cheaper than UofP (and no group projects are required!). :)

Melissa - National Univ. operates on a quarter system, so the degree (and courses) that you took at AIU should transfer over directly (but obviously check with NU to verify).

The downside to NU, is a)The tuition - each course will run you $1044 and b)The online classes CAN be a bit unorganized. I just dropped my second class due to a lack of organization. The first class was okay though, so I don't know if this will be a trend.

    National University BS/CJA page: http://www.nu.edu/Academics/Schools/SOBM/ProfessionalStudies/Degrees/620-405.html

Now, if National Univ. is not your cup of tea (and you're looking for a much less expensive option), then you may wish to consider Peru State College (http://www.peru.edu). Peru an RA school based in Nebraska, offers a 100% DL BS in CJ. Tuition is ONLY $114/credit (semester hour). Yes, you read that correctly - just $114/credit. So, an average class would run you approx. $342!.

Here is a link to the online BS - CJ page: http://www.hpcnet.org/peru/onlineeducation/bscj

    Good luck!

P.S. If you would like to get a feel for PSC, they offer an online Certificate in Criminal Justice. The 4 courses offered are all included in the BS/CJ. So, you could obtain a Certificate in CJ on your way to your Bachelor's! Good stuff.

If AIU has worked like a charm for you... and if you can afford their high tuition... then I would recommend staying on course to finish a Bachelors degree with them. If your path is already tried, true and proven, then why alter it in midstream???

AAARRGGGHHH!!! Would it be possible to increase the time limit to edit a post from 10 minutes to something a bit more reasonable like maybe 30 minutes??? I often re-read a post and find a typo, or something that I would like to add or delete and I cannot do so. Thanks!!!

Anyway, I wanted to let you know (Melissa), that National also offers a Certificate in CJA. This Cert. is also contains 4 courses, all of which could be transferred to the Bachelor's program.

I would just like to thank everyone who has responded to my post and I will look into Peru never came across that school yet.

As far as going back to AIU, well there are just too many little things I do not like about it like their BBB report online. Also if you go to http://www.ripoffreport.com/results.asp?q1=ALL&q4=&q6=&q3=&q2=&q7=&searchtype=0&submit2=Search%21&q5=AIU they have tons of complaints from AIU. Including a recent one about their accredidation which was also a problem about a year ago.

Also the teachers must spend no more than 2 minutes on a 3 pages paper I swear because class averages are EXTREMELY high.

Also I have had a admissions person insist I go back for my ba and tried lying saying she had talked to me on the phone previously which she didn't. And most of all what upset me is that she asked what I expected to get my with associates because I wont get much so I might as well continue with my BA with them. So those are the main reasons nothing too big but if im paying 20k plus I do not think I should have to deal with that and I want to learn when I make mistakes and not just receive an A on all my papers.

    Thanks again everyone!

Hey thanks for the info on Peru Ive never heard of it and have been looking at their website for quite some time. They look to be a good college and I will have to give them a call tomorrow, so I just thought I would say thanks!! The tuition isn't a huge problem as long as it's reasonable, but 114 a credit is a great deal!!
