This post is actually for my brother. He has approx 30-35 credits from Eastern Washington University, but they are over 10-years old. He has been working in IT for the past 16 years and has a lot of expereince. He is currently a PMP and employed as a Corp. I.T. Manager. We are trying to find a degree online for him (He works in Houston) that he can complete within the next 18-24 months. He used to have CNA/CNE from Novel but I think he let them expire. My question is this: Is there a program, preferrably online, that he can complete (IT, BBA, ??)within our required timeframe? I am sure that he can get some credit for his PMP certificate. What about PLA's from TESC, or Excelsior? I am posting this on two boards here to maximize our exposure. Thank you very much for the help.

    PS
He has been riding the IT wave/Dot.com wave for a while and has had some moments of great financial success along with periods of prolonged unemployment (as I am sure is the case for most IT people) so we are looking to shore up his experience with some "paper".

    Thanks,

    Cory

Plenty of degrees out there! He can expedite the process by utilizing CLEP and DANTES exams to get extra credit to get the pesky General courses out of the way... then he has to find a school he likes that offers a degree he wants to do...

He can complete the degree within 24 months, but he has to put forth the effort as well...

What does kind of degree does he want? BS? ..Computer Science, Networking, etc ?

    Charter Oak State College!

I was in a similar situation, where I had a bit of coursework and an old, expired technical certification (in my case MCSE on NT 4.0). I went through Charter Oak State University and did a B.S. with an Information Systems Studies concentration. Your brother should contact them, as their admissions people have well earned their reputation for being friendly and useful even for prospective students who are still in the "just asking questions" stage.

Does it need to be in IT? I used to work in the IT field in management and found that getting a Business degree balanced out my real world IT experience and certifications. You can test out of an entire BS in Business at Excelsior (as well as prob a few other places.) Excelsior will accept Cisco and MS certifications as well. I don't know if they accept Novell.

Your brother won't do it - the the sweetest "paper" around to be had online in 24 months is Oxford's diploma in Computing via the Internet.

I have an EdS enroute to my PhD - but the undergraduate Oxford Diploma cachet has to be seen to be believed - carries tremendous weight in the US - far more than it should.

Plus, you can drop "bloody" into a conversation and get away with it. ;)
