I want to work within the school district in the offices/administration building. My question is, which degree should I get? I was looking into Business Administration and the courses offered didn't seem to relate to office techniques other than sales/marketing positions. I come across Administrative Assistant degree programs and it loooks like that is what I should take.

Does anyone have advice on which degree to pursue for my career outlook and also, if it is Admin. Assistant, what good RA schools are out there that I can look into?

    Thanks!

Degrees don't determine where you work. Generally, they help determine what you do. What does it mean to "work within the school district in the offices/administration building"?

A Bachelor of Education, one specializing in Administration, might be the way to go. Finding one will be interesting. There's a search function on this website. You might also want to borrow a copy of Bears' Guide--or wait for the new edition in January. I don't have one handy, so I can't make any recommendations.

I work in a district office as a coordinator. Like Dr. Douglas said, it really depends what you want to do. Personnel, finance, tech, there are so many areas. In general though, most of our people do not have college degrees and make from $9-13 dollars an hour. I have worked in a larger district, 50,000 students, and people were a little more educated but the higher paying jobs were still occupied by former building administrators and such.

There is a Master of Arts in Education with a Specialization in Administration and Supervision offered at the University of Phoenix Online.

You could complete a bachelor degree in liberal arts or business/public administration first.

If on the other hand you simply want clerical/administrative type work at the school district offices, then perhaps an associate degree might be more suitable.

Thanks everyone. I'm well aware of the Master's that's offered in Educational Admin. I want to get that but first I have to get an Associate's.

I guess I want to stay within the clerical field, office management, etc. Now all I need is good RA Colleges for Administrative Assistant. Anyone know of any?
