Hi i need the degree plan for Excelsior college's B.S in Liberal Arts Degree.
I want to start taking some Clep exams and then enroll and the process will take awhile.
If i know the degree plan then i will know which exams to take or which classes to take at a local community college.
Any help will be highly appreciated
    Thanks a lot,
    Adoncia

Check out www.BAin4weeks.com . A lot of your questions will be answered there. The web site lays out a pretty good plan for obtaining a BA thorugh CLEP and DANTES tests at Excelsior. Mind you, I think four weeks is pushing it a bit, but it can be done rather quickly if you are a good at taking tests.

    Thanks TCord1964,
i have checked the Bain4weeks website and they do not have the degree plan for BS in Liberal Arts.
They do have one for BS in General Business.
Their Qand A section also is not accepting any new questions.

There is only one subject required by Excelsior without option and that is Information Literacy.

For all of the other degree requirements you have a variety of options to meet your degree requirements.

    Example:

(from memory) The BSLS will require 9-12 hours in Social Science/History.

You can meet 6 hours of this requirement with the CLEP General Exam Social Science and History.

You might instead use the DANTES Intro to Sociology for 3 and a CLEP or DANTES History exam for another 3.

You might instead take 2 semesters of American History at local community college for 6 hours.

The GRE in Psych could be worth as many as 30 hours in Psych (and related) and would take care of that SS/Hist requirement right off.

    =================

This is just an example for one course requirement -- there are additional options as well.

Every degree requirement at Excelsior will offer you a variety of options. That's why many of us like the school so much.

You will not find a list that says:

Take this test first, then take this test. Now take this test and that. Once you've taken this one then take the other. It just doesn't exist in that form.

What follows is but one of many possible paths for you to consider:

I've read the advice you've been given to take a couple classes at local community college and that is sound.

If you want to consider a degree by testing then I recommend the following in any order:

    CLEP General Exams

    Social Science and History
    Natural Sciences
    Mathematics
    Humanities

    CLEP Subject Exam

    Analyzing and Interpreting Literature

Those 5 exams will give you 30 semester hours of credit (6 each) and will establish a pretty solid start on the general education core requirement of the BSLS.

The CLEP General Exam in English Comp (with or without essay) will not meet the Excelsior written English requirement -- don't waste your money on that exam.

    Next:

take the following CLEP subject exams (if you are so inclined)

    US History I and II
    Intro to Sociology
    Intro to Psychology
    Information Systems

take the following DANTES subject exams (if you are so inclined)

    any 5 exams

At the point that you have passed the above exams, you will have gathered about 60 semester hours of college credit and the bulk/majority of your general education at the lower level will be complete. You should be close to meeting the requirements for an AA/AS degree with just those exams.

At that point, you will be better prepared to make decisions regarding what path you wish to take in furthering your education (whether via Excelsior or some other institution).

For any exam above that you feel you can't prep and pass -- enroll in a local course to learn the material.

I am enrolled in Excelsior's B.S in Liberal Studies degree program.

I have taken the following exams so far...

    Comm Coll Sociology
    Comm Coll Computer Apps
    Comm Coll English with Comp
    Comm Coll Chemistry
    DANTES Intro to Law Enforcement
    CLEP Management
    DANTES Organizational Behavior
    DANTES Introduction to Business
    DANTES Principles of Supervision
    CLEP American Government
    CLEP US History II
    DANTES Criminal Justice-SS/History Req
    CLEP Introduction Psychology
    CLEP Educational Psychology
    CLEP Human Growth and Development
    Excelsior Information Literacy (1)
    DANTES Environment and Humanity
    DANTES Religions of The World
    DANTES Here's to Your Health
CLEP Humanities (or Analyzing and Interpreting Lit)(6)
    Excelsior College Mathematics

These take care of my General Education Requirements and total about 64 credits. You can tweak this however as long as you cover your general ed requirements. For example, you can substitute another exam for DANTES Environment and Humanity...maybe you would like to take the Biology CLEP instead. The gen ed requirement is 6 credits in one of the categories below and 9 credits in the other two categories.

Math/ Natural Science (With at least 2 credits math)
    Social Sciences
Humanities (With at least 3 credits Freshman Comp and 3 credits in courses that are not applied writing)

The depth requirement is at least 4 courses in two subjects (Such as Psychology and Business) with at least 1 course at the upper level for each. You may only fullfill this requirement with either both depths in the Arts and Sciences category (Such as Psychology and Geography) or one depth in the Arts and Sciences and one in Applied Professional (such as Business, Criminal Justice, etc) You also must have a total of 30 credits at the 300-400 level.

    Thank you

Coachturner i read your advice and thought maybe then i should register for gre psychology because i am very weak in the subjects of American History etc.
The exam date if i registered now would be dec 10th but after taking a look at the practice test i understood that it's going to be very very tough to do it in a month.
I think i will go for the next test date that is april now.
I wish they had something around feb/march so i could start studying right away.
thank you so much for your advice, you are always so helpful
