I am interested in undertaking a degree study in philosophy or liberal arts at Masters level. I am really doing it for personal development rather than to use it as a vehicle to better employment.

Accreditation, therefore, it not really an issue, but cost and quality is. I am looking around the globe for a course. Has anybody got any suggestions?

    regards,

Excelsior College has an MA in Liberal Studies and the tuition for their liberal arts graduate courses is $345 per credit hour.

(I'm not recommending them per se, just saying they are an option.)

You may want to also use the advanced search feature at the USNews E-Learning Guide site.

Considering your location, I'd suggest that you check into the University of Melbourne. The last I checked they had a Masters program in Philosophy. Most recently I have had some difficulty in navigating their website and so I've been unable to verify that the program still exists. Beyond that I'd point you toward Charles Sturt University (they seem to offer just about everything on a DL basis now) and I'd also point out that the Holy Apsotles College and Seminary has a Masters program in Philosophy. I believe that it is the only RA DL Masters in Philosophy program in the USA. Last, but not least, is the Masters program in Philosophy at UNISA. High quality, low cost. Best of luck. Let us know what you decide.

If cost becomes an issue, I would just learn on my own with help from philosophy lectures from the Teaching Company:

BTW, Teaching Company lectures are also sold at eBay and are also found in libraries, at least in US libraries.

    Thanks for advice.
I am a point where I will probably not achieve significant gains in employment with further education, but I want to acquire knowledge for my own development as an individual and, perhaps, also as an interest. I wonder how many others are out there in a similar position to myself?

The quality of the education is important (otherwise you waste your time) but whether something is NA or RA is probably less relevant.

I use the Teaching company products all the time. I travel about forty minutes each way to work every day and I use the tapes in the car to get some benefit out of the journey. They are excellent and I go through withdrawal after I finish a course. I would also like some interaction with a lecturer and student base to test my knowledge and (maybe)expand my thinking on the topics.

I will take onboard your advice and sort out the best option for me.
    Once again, thank you.
