Is anyone aware of distance learning doctoral program, located in the states, that offers a project management major?
The only project management doctorates mentioned in Bears' Guide are foreign: Bradford www.brad.ac.uk and Melbourne www.unimelb.edu.au . Sorry I couldn't be of more help.
The Project Management Institute (PMI) website has a list of schools offering degree programs (undergrad and grad--includes doctorate programs) at the following site: http://www.pmi.org/prod/groups/public/documents/info/pdc_otherschools.asp Some US schools offering doctorates in project management, mostly under engineering programs. Don't know about distance learning opportunities. Some foreign schools offering doctorate programs in project management, unsure of the distance learning opportunities. Best bet may be to find a US distance learning school that offers a master's in project management and also offers a doctorate in management (Colorado Tech?), you may be able to create a project management emphasis in their doctorate program.
There's a good selection of online masters programs in project management but there are few doctoral programs in that one discipline anywhere. The DBA is a good choice since projects and programs entail most of the elements of enterprise management. You might also look into Walden and their PhD in Applied Management. Don't forget that professional certification in project management is very important these days (typically the PMP is required) regardless of education, so plan to go for that as well.
Good morning! If you decide to consider programs outside the US, then look at the RMIT program shown at http://www.rmit.edu.au/browse;ID=DR060 on the web. In my opinion, RMIT's DPM program is very good, and the program leader (Professor Walker) is top-notch. This program is already producing some good research, including a recent publication in the Project Management Journal. Good luck in your search!
