    The University of California Los Angeles, graduate web page says;

    "The general requirement for admission for a U.S. student is a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution, comparable in standard and content to a bachelor’s degree from the University of California. A scholastic average of B (3.0 on a 4.0 scale) or better is required—or its equivalent if the letter grade system is not used—for the last 60 semester units or last 90 quarter units of undergraduate study and in any post-baccalaureate study.

    Degrees which are not considered comparable include those granted on the basis of work completed at institutions which are not fully accredited and those granted on the basis of nonacademic prior learning, test scores, or other than organized supervised coursework in academic subjects."

    It seems to exclude graduates from any institution that grant credit for GREs, CLEPs, DANTES, etc.

    Is this interpretation correct?

    If it is so, why?

    This issue has been raised at DI before. The only way to find out for sure would be to ask UCLA, which I don't think anyone has done. However, there are several reasons for doubting that this language applies to RA schools like Excelsior, COSC, or TESC.

    (1) This link shows that UCLA was using the language of concern many years ago, in the 1995-1997 General Catalog. So the language predates the advent of modern DL. It may simply be an artifact of an earlier era that has not yet been updated in the catalog.

    (2) There don't appear to be any equivalent restrictions at Berkeley, or other schools in the University of California system. In fact, Excelsior indicates that some recent alumni are in grad school at UC Davis and UC San Diego.

    (3) At least one division of UCLA, the Nursing School, currently grants up to 30 units of credit for completing Excelsior College Examinations.

    I personally doubt that UCLA would automatically dismiss an RA degree from Excelsior, COSC, or TESC. But we'll never know for sure unless someone asks.

    Yes... and relatively recently, too... in this thread... just FYI.

    Thank you, I only read Distance Learning Discussions, so I didn't know it was discussed under off-topics. Very interesting ideas were shared.

    I am interested to know if UCLA would accept graduate students with a BS degree in Chemistry from Excelsior, with credits from GREs,(Education and Chemistry) CLEPs and examinations (Indiana, NYU, Excelsior).
