Maximum Amount of Transfer Credits!!!

    Hello Everyone,

    Once again, I am counting on the vast knowledge of the many members of this site to lend a helping hand, hopefully. I was wondering if there were any RA schools that would accept more than the standard 3 or 4 class transfer for there MBA program. Does anyone know of any schools that have this sort of policy? I know that Exelsior allows quite a few more, but other than them, is there any other schools that do?

    Wouldn't that be a great Master's thesis (or even doctoral) topic in an education or business school?

    We have lots of anecdotal information, but no one really seems to know. It may not be easy to learn -- I suspect there is a fair amount of 'bending the rules' -- but what useful data these would be.

    I've been researching this topic myself (for practical reasons), and I haven't found any school other than Excelsior so far that accepts more than the usual 3-4.

    Dear Dr. Bear,

    It was with great pleasure that I read your post two weeks ago. (Is this serendipity or what?) I am currently in the work-based-learning MProf/DProf program at Middlesex University. For the past few months, I have been looking for a suitable Master’s topic in the area of mobility in international education, particularly in MBA programs. This topic sounds just right for me. Credit equivalency is a central theme in academic credentials mobility and a study of schools’ policies will allow me to get root of it. If there is, as you mention, a lot of the 'bending the rules,' it would be interesting to peg the range within which they are bent and discuss the implications. My previous topical suggestions were rejected by my advisor as being "too ambitious for a short Master’s-level project" (only one third of the total). So, I may have to cut down the sample size from 240 schools to 100. Thus, if you won’t be making this a topic of your own study, then I would like to take on this challenge. By the way, I’d enjoy hearing some of the credit-transfer anecdotes you alluded to.

    P.S.: A bit about myself…I am a newbie neither to this forum, nor to distance learning. I, first, bought your book in 1991 while in Japan, directly from TenSpeed Press (no online bookstores back then...Amazon was just a spark in Jeff Bezos' eye). After a year of researching ‘distance education’ (DE, as it was still called back then) by writing letters/faxes (no email back then) to hundreds of schools, I was fascinated by the possibilities and started a non-profit (also no-revenue) project to disseminate information on correspondence study programs through universities mainly in the US, Canada, Australia to Japan’s expatriate community. After all, one could not google something back then. To learn more about DE, I enrolled in a one-off course on DE development in the University of London’s DL Master’s program. Then, while back in the US, I studied instructional design and online education in Arizona State University’s EMC Master's program. Now, having started two Master’s programs and not finished them due to international job-initiated moves, I will finish up my Master’s on nothing less than mobility in international education.
