Has anyone done any master level work at Leicester? I'm seriously considering their Masters in Mass Comm but having no experience with British colleges would like to hear from some who has gone through one of their DL programs.

    Thanks.

I seriously thought about their Masters in Museum studies but the cost was prohibitive (over $20K as I recall).

    Good evening!

Deb, I have taken the first two modules in one of Leicester's DL programs (or should I say programmes?), and I consider both the content and the support to be excellent so far. However, your proposed MA is offered by the Centre for Mass Communication Research while (whilst?) my degree program is from a different group at Leicester. There may be differences from department to department, so I don't want to lead you astray. With that said, I am enjoying the Leicester experience tremendously.

Ian, I've heard good things about Leicester's program in museum studies, and it appears that the cost of the master's degree may have come down since you last looked. According to the link at http://www.le.ac.uk/distancelearning/courselist.html on the web, the fees for the MA & MSc are only 5,000 pounds (approximately half of the 20,000 USD noted in your message). Of course, there are other programs in museum studies such as Oklahoma's degree (see http://www.ou.edu/cls/Prospective/Masters/museum.html on the web).

    Regards,

    James

Those are the UK and EU fees. Overseas fees (which are still amazingly reasonable by UK standards) are at http://www.le.ac.uk/archaeology/dl/dl_cost.html

    Dear Angela:

I appreciate the correction on the course fees. From the link you provided, it looks like the two-year MA would cost a student from the US or any other Overseas location about 6,385 pounds during the 2005-2007 school years. In other distance learning courses offered by Leicester, there is no cost difference for UK/EU versus Overseas students (except for extra postage). It makes good sense for a prospective student to contact the individual department for confirmation of fees, and your link certainly gives the latest information for the courses offered in museum studies. Thank you very much.

    Regards,

    James
