I have been considering the MS in Human Relations and Business from Amberton University and I was wondering if anyone here has any experience in this program or with this university? How long are the semesters, how many courses did you take per semester, what was the average amount of time you put into each class each week, what kinds of papers, tests, etc were required? Would the workload be managable for someone who works full-time and has a 1-year old?

    Thanks

    Rhonda

Whatever are the answers to many of these questions would likely be true about most any accredited, distance learning masters program, I would think.

That may be true, but I was asking for information specific to that program. BTW, I've been on this forum browsing for about two months now and I find many of your posts to be insightful...Please keep them coming...

Greetings from another seeker who has learned so much here! This is my first post to this board. I have just decided to withdraw from a bachelor degree DL program (at a school which sounded just wondeful, and probably is, for somebody in a diferent situation.) So, your list of questions is just exactly the kind of research I discovered needs to be done before sending in the money! I too had considered Amberton. Best of luck!

I am in the MS in Human Relations degree program. The semesters are about 10 weeks in length, with 4 semesters a year. I chose this program because there is a lot of flexibility with the courses that you can take. You can go with a more traditional almost MBA type plan or go with a more Human Resources type plan. I have taken 1 course one semester and then two courses another semester. I would estimate that I spent about 5-12 hours per week on each course depending on what assignments were due at the time. The courses that I have taken thus far have been mostly writing intensive. I have had one final test (the finals for my other classes were research papers) that was open book and had to be taken within a specific time frame. I work full-time and have two boys 4 and 19 months. So it was sometimes difficult to get work done, I mostly waited until the boys were in bed and then did my homework. The support and faculty at the school has been outstanding. I had to withdraw from courses for this semester as my Uncle Sam wants me to go see some friends of his in the desert for about 18 months. They were very supportive of my situation and assure me that I will be able to return to the school in the future. Good luck!

    Amberton Information

I am in my final semester at Amberton University. I am working on an MBA with a Strategic Leadership emphasis.

    Semesters: 4 in a year. 3 are 10 weeks, 1 is 7 weeks.

Classes: 2 per semester is safe and recommended. 3 is a stretch, 1 is very doable.

Workload: Depends on the professor. Some required 10-15 hours a week, others 5-10.

Overall: I love my experience at AU. I can't recommend it high enough. If I knew it would have been this good, i would have done it a long time ago. The student support is outstanding. the courses are very good and applicable. I njoy this much more than my B & M undergrad, and much more than TESC.

Take a look at www.Degreeforum.com as there are several Masters specific threads in the Graduate forum. They are switching the server, so they will be down for a few days.

    Good luck.

I was looking at their Master of Science in Human Resource Training and Development program. Unfortunately, it's only offered on campus. I'm in Korea, so I'm out of luck. But if I had any questions, they would get back to me quickly. They seem to have pretty good customer service.
