Since we have all been born (perhaps with the exception of Lawrie), shouldn't we all be awarded doctoral degrees in gynecology based on past experience?

I don't think so, Ken! If this happened, then everyone on earth would have a doctorate. We would then have to reach for something else which would set us apart from the unlearned masses of humankind. I mean, at least now we can say to the majority, "I have a doctorate and you don't--Nanny, Nanny, Boo Boo!" [IMG]

But isn't that the objective? If you are averageish adult... can tie your shoes, remember your name, have a drivers licence, etc.... you can pay your money, document your experience, maybe take a couple multiple choice test and presto-chango everyone gets a degree.

Actually, you are probably right... then the masters becomes the bachelors, the doctorate becomes the masters and post-doc will become the doctorate... this is what the professor from Florida calls "degree inflation" and is his concern.

Speaking as someone who does medical malpractice defense and risk management for a living, accuracy compels me to point out that a more appropriate doctorate would be in obstetrics.

Let's not forget Karma University, which the copyright-protecting fake listed in the 9th or maybe 8th edition of Bears' Guide.

The program began with a past-life hypnotic regression, and then you were given full credit for all past life experience.

Well, you should, certainly, since that part of a woman's anatomy describes you perfectly.

Guys & Gals..(not directed at anyone speficially)

Please, let's try to avoid personal attacks. We can all get our points across without an inappropriate anatomy lesson. [IMG]

Of course, that should read "specifically".

Yet I thought it a perfectly "positioned" riposte, both in the context of the thread and in its target. On the button, so to speak.

Perfect or not, it has no place on the public forum. If you wish to make comments such as that, please do so via private email to the target party.

    Thanks for your cooperation.

Posts were seldom this indirect in AED, and this board bears little resemblance to it.

We (adminstrators & moderators) frequently receive criticism, sometimes deserved, of being too heavy-handed in issuing reprimands or other sanctions in regard to TOS violations. The only other criticism we receive with as much frequency (also sometimes deserved) is that we let things go too far before stepping in.

It's a very real case of damned if you do, damned if you don't. We just strive to attain a happy medium that we all can live with.

There is no basis for that reaction. The comment was indirect enough to be fit for a public forum. It seems you allow the weeks of baiting, but when it finally elicits a humorous and fairly benign response, you react.

As for "no place in a public forum", can I direct your attention to the plethora of obscene epithets hurled in the life of this board without comment? If memory serves, you yourself may have contributed to that colorful collection with some well placed invective.

Perhaps it is not so much a matter of offense, as who offends?

    My last contribution.

    Dear Lawrie,

C'mon, Lawrie! You might have your special way of being, we all know that, but I don't think you are really a bad guy (or guide). Aside from this, your contributions are always well-structured, with readily back-up, and, most importantly, useful for "a few, some, or many" people, but definitely useful. For these reasons, I politely ask you to reconsider your position so that you do not resign from posting on the board.

    With sincerity,
