I was surfing the net and found this negative site about Capella University:

    http://www.capellauniversity.org/index.html

It should be noted this site is not associated with the university itself (duh!). However, the manner in which this negativity is placed, imo it is down right childish! I know no college or university is perfect. However it looks to me as if who ever made this site can not get on with their lives due to their negative experience. I am suprised whom ever developed this site has not been sued by CU.

The reason I am suprised the website developer has not been sue is due to the university name being used in the website address. Isnt Capella University a copy righted name? The only difference in the web address between the real CU is they have a .edu and the spoof one has a .org. I am not a lawyer, but isnt this a copy right infringement?

Haven't sites like this been ruled as protected on First Amendment grounds?

I thought that criticism was reserved exclusively for NCU and UoP? Capella? ;)

Interesting that you say that, as I've heard more criticism of Capella than of NCU.

Really??? I once considered Capella, but could not afford it. It's way out of my price league and, consequently, I never researched it any further. What types of complaints have you heard about Capella?

I have been tempted from time to time to start a web site like that about my former Law School. Very clever!!!

    Similiar site with UoP

Free speech prevails. People have legitimate gripes and unless Capell and UoP can prove what they are saying is false, then they have no leg to stand on.

    Hey all,

I didnt mean to sound silly. I thought maybe this was slander or something similar. I was suprised to find such a site. I heard more complaints about UOP than any other school. I was very suprised to hear these criticisms about Capella. In fact, when I was in junior college, I had some adjunct instructors from CU. They were good instructors and all. I just tend to think this site is a little childish. But that's my opinion.

As long as the facts are true (lawsuit against Capella University), there really isn't much that can be done about it.

While arguments can be made both for and against the wording - this is generally protected under freedom of speech - I believe Microsoft, Wal-Mart. GM, etc., have 20 or 30 "anti-sites" they have to live with.

In fact there has been all sorts of criticism and not so great feedback regarding a number of online universities. Yet some of the conspiracy mongers/theorists on this forum with nothing better to do with their lives than play pseudo Sherlock Holmes investigative roles, appear to have an axe to grind for whatever reason SOLELY with NCU. Yes it is good to learn of valid problems with any of these schools, as well as the positive. However to ONLY reiterate the negative time after time to the exclusion of the positive relating to NCU is indicative of the posters in questions personal agenda rather than an indictment against NCU.

    The usual anti-for-profit stuff

Similar comments as one hears about Phoenix, that their proprietary nature makes them dollar focused rather than student focused, that the tuition one pays is out of line with the quality one receives, etc.

(I should add that I have no experience with Capella myself, and that for all I know they're better than Harvard.)

Not according to what I found about this former CU student. The Office of Civil Rights made several investigations in favor of the university. Whats pretty funny is the disability accomodations that this guy requested, such as a quiet room to study and snail mailed copies of online material.

Go to the bottom of this link to read the full OCR report.

The student (Jeff LaMarca) who created these websites was expelled from Capella for numerous violations of the Capella Learner Code of Conduct. LaMarca filed several complaints with the Office of Civil Rights claiming that Capella retaliated against him. The OCR ruled in all complaints that Capella's actions were justified due to LaMarca's behavior in Capella's online classes.

LaMarca has filed a lawsuit against Capella claiming that Capella failed to provide reasonable accommodation for his disabilites and for retaliation. Capella has filed countersuit claiming defamation and interfering with economic relations.

I believe anyone who is interested in Capella should visit LaMarca's websites:

    www.capellanazis.com

    www.capellauniversitysucks.us

    www.capellauniversity.org

Then ask him a few questions:

    1. What were the issues with WebCT that made it "impossible for you to study?"

    2. Why don't you disclose the fact that the quarter before you were expelled you earned "A's" in your Capella courses? (These courses were on the WebCT platform, with special accommodation for his disabilities).

    3. On www.capellauniversitysucks.us. you post that you filed a complaint with the OCR. What were the results of the complaint?

    4. Why did the court rule in your lawsuit that you had to provide access to Capella and their legal counsel to your website? (In other words, why did you block them out - are you afraid of what they will see?)

    5. Since you have disabilities, why do you choose to ridicule the religious beliefs and substance abuse recovery of Capella Rocks, instead of disagreeing with him on the issues?

    6. You harrass Mr. Evans because he wrote a letter to your employer. How is this different that you writing a letter to the National Guard compaining about Capella Rocks?

    7. Why do you compare Capella administration officials with the Nazis? This is making a mockery of all the horrible things that the Nazis did to Jews, Gypsies, Poles, etc.

On the Capella site, it does show a link to a professor named Diane Stottlemyer who claimed a PhD from LaCrosse University and is still teaching (without the reference to a dubious PhD)

    Other than that, just humor.

I'll have to look at those capella sites at home, The computer in my office at work will allow me to look at the uopsucks website but not any of the capella sites. I keep getting the following message:

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.
