Easily or cheap? You can easily turn them into college credits by filling out some forms and sending the Fredrick Community College $60 PER CREDIT HOUR. It's probably the easiest way but not the cheapest. http://training.fema.gov/EMIWeb/IS/cc.asp I've heard in the past that the Thomas Edison State College (http://www.tesc.edu/) will evaluate them and award college credit. I'm not sure if they still do this. If they do, it's cheaper to go this route than it is to pay $60 a credit if you are trying to get a bunch of credit. According to the FEMA website, TESC still accepts FEMA classes for credit: http://www.training.fema.gov/emiweb/cgi-shl/college/user_view.cfm?college_id=20 According to an older degreeinfo.com post, they don't: http://forums.degreeinfo.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=20463&highlight=fema Maybe someone else here knows the current state of TESC and FEMA. You can definately get credit from Fredrick CC, however.
FEMA and TESC Hi, FEMA credits are transcripted at TESC but were left out of the catalog. This is unfortunate since there are a huge amount of military students. You can credit bank these and should be able to transfer them to any institution. Hille
Thomas Edison College I have 42 semester hours on my Thomas Edison transcript, all done through the completing of FEMA courses. http://forums.degreeinfo.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=18705 Michael Gates .
I read in one of your old posts that you were using these credits towards a degree in emergency management. Where are you enrolled at and is it DL? I don't see TESC listing any program like that.
Thomas Edison State College Distance Degree Program Bachelor of Science in Human Services Emergency Disaster Services Specialization http://www.tesc.edu/prospective/undergraduate/degree/bshus/bshs_emergdisastermgmt.pdf .
Do those FEMA credits fill most of the degree requirements or are you having to take actually courses elsewhere to meet requirements? Thanks for the info, I never knew they had that degree.
FEMA Classes Michael, I was wondering what the time frame for the completion of the 42 credits that you earned throught the FEMA classes was? I see that most of them are 1 cr. with the exception of a few that are 2. I took a look at some of them and they don't seem to be all that long. The other thing I was wondering was did you get a letter grade for them through TESC or are they p/f ?Any input would be appreciated.
The key question is do you want to pass the exams only or do you want to learn the material as well? I've finished a few of these FEMA courses in less than an hour. You can open the exam, open the answer sheet, open the material and do searches through the material for the answers. They are pretty easy to finish.
