Apparently, this is the case (with the exception of the English and Math placement tests).

I'm taking my first undergrad course at National University and there has been no discussion whatsoever of requiring a Proctor to take an exam. I'm about to take my Mid-term tonight and it's a 30 question, multiple choice test with a 1 hour time limit. Obviously, this means open book (and open notes). With just two minutes per question, I doubt people will be able to look up too many answers. In plain words - the students will still need to read the textbook chapters (or at least take decent notes).

BTW, the 4-week format is not easy. While the course that I'm taking (Intro to Communications) is not difficult, the fast-paced format has proven to be quite challenging. My first "class" (online meeting) was on 9/28 and here it is 10/12 and I'm already taking the mid-term! The good news is that I expect to complete my BA in Psychology in just under 3 years. It's a good thing I've already lost my hair - don't have to worry about it falling out! :)

    Is National University "RA"?
Do they offer "a la carte" courses, Or do you have to be enrolled in a program?
What is the cost per credit for undergrad ?
The 4 weeks format sounds interesting!
    Thanks,
    Pilot

Then it may also interest you that Keiser College (my employer) is a regionally accredited college whose courses are are all four weeks long and whose online courses are evaluated through non-proctored online examinations.

The criticism of Kennedy-Western University's unproctored exams is that they were all the university required to earn credit. Also, IIRC, they were not timed. Time limits put pressure on students to know the material, rather than taking the time to look it up.

I don't think anyone seriously suggested that unproctored online exams were inappropriate for RA schools--just that they, untimed and without other forms of measurement, weren't sufficient.

Do your NU classes require other assignments?

Well, Aspen University does not require proctored exams for the entire undergraduate program.

California Coast University has open book and untimed exams, and a family friend may serve as the proctor.

    Kennedy-Western certainly isn't alone here.

Incidentally, Keiser College's online exams are timed, and they're supposedly designed so that someone can't do well without prior study. I actually took two courses through them for transfer to complete my Bachelor's at Charter Oak, and the exams weren't nutcrackers, but they weren't effortless either.

Pilot - Yes, National Univ. is Regionally Accredited by WASC. Not sure if you can take "ala carte courses", I'm enrolled as a student in the BA Psych program.

Course per undergrad quarter unit is: $232 Note: Almost all courses are 4.5 Quarter Units, therefore each course will run you $1044. For the purpose of transfer, 4.5 Quarter units equates to 3.0 Semester units.

BTW, if your employer offers tuition reimbursement, National Univ. will allow you to defer payment until 45 days after the semester ends. This was a big factor for me as I have a family to provide for and I could not come up with $1000 and change up front.

The 4 week format IS interesting. It certainly flies by, let me tell you! If you get bored easily, this class format might work out well for you (it's 1/4 the length of a traditional B&M course).

So, where can I find information about taking SINGLE COURSES with e.g. Keiser College (just seem to be able to find whole programs on their website)?

Can't find any info about their tuition fees either - do you guys have numbers?

    Thanks for your help.
    Cheers,
    t.

P.S.: Would generelly be VERY interested in any RA (!) and non-proctored online courses - any other choices? (since finding a proctor in Germany is really too hard...)

Rich - Yes, my current class (Intro to Communications COM 100) does require other assignments besides the Mid-Term and Final. Each week, the class is required to logon and participate in a threaded discussion. A maximum of five points is awarded each week for the threads. This equals 20% of our final grade! Also, there is a "journal entry" due each week (also worth 5 points each week, for a total of 20% of the final grade).

Finally, we are required to write a 5 page Final Paper. Of course, the syllabus will vary from course to course, however this is my first class. In viewing the syllabus for my next class "Geography: Mapping the World", it looks like there are eight separate unit tests and a Final. It doesn't look like a Final Paper or essay is required. I'll keep everyone up to date on my course load as I progress further in the program.

Anyway, I was curious and ran the following search in google:

    proctor site:nu.edu

The only mention of a proctor was for the Accuplacer (Assessment) exams.

Email me and I'll put you in touch with someone with answers. The overwhelming majority of Keiser College students are in degree programs, but there is a "non-matriculated" status for people like you interested in classes a la carte.

    ¡Acreditado completamente!

 Um, Keiser College is fully accredited by SACS, and has been for some time. In fact preparations are underway for next year's reaffirmation site visit.

Tom or any National University students

    Hi Tom,

I'm sure that you're probably done with school by now! lol

I'm considering to enroll at National University to complete my BA in Psychology, is there anything good or bad that I should know about this school before I enroll?

Also, after taking your Math placement test, did the school ever require you to get a Proctor in order to take your Algebra tests online?

    Best,
    Azaria
