I bumped into this website today...

Anyone heard about this? How can these things legally exist is beyond my modest comprehension.

From their site: "The legal authority to issue REAL college degrees. (immediate download with purchase)"

it's that easy...just download and have the legal authority right with you!! Apparently folks buy it or the site wouldn't be online anymore...

As a technical aside, I want to thank starlight for linking us to the Turnkey College site the way s/he did. But putting spaces between the letters, s/he was able to tell us what the site's URL is, but without this web page, that you're reading right now, linking to said site. The spaces between the letters caused this forum software to fail to see the URL as a URL and so no actual link was established. The same thing could be accomplished, it should be noted, by not putting spaces between the letters, but then unchecking the "Automatically parse URLs" item before clicking on the "Submit..." button. By either method, the goal is to provde the URL to the reader without said URL actually becoming a link to the nefarious diploma mill, fake accreditor, or fake credential evaluator web site.

The reason why it's a good thing that the pages of our site, here, don't link to such nefarious web sites is because some search engines -- chiefly the Google search engine -- use the number of web sites out in the world which link to a given web site as one of the criteria for determining how high said linked-to web site will rank on search results pages. In other words, the more web sites like ours that link to a given diploma mill or fake accreditor or fake credential evaluator site, the higher said site will rank (i.e., the more popular it will be) in Google search results pages.

So, making it so that when we give URLs to nefarious web sites here, they do not convert into live links, is a good thing. Placing spaces between the letters is one way to do that. Not placing spaces, but then unchecking the "Automatically parse URLs" before clicking on the "Submit..." button is another.

Thanks, startlight for doing it that way. And welcome to DegreeInfo!

Why would anyone do this? If I want to open my own college (and we have a great list of names on another thread), can't I just create my own website and charge the going rate for a bachelors, masters, and/or PhD (or any combo thereof)? I've got my own transcripts to use as a guide and I bet I can get a seal at Office Depot for $20-30. I've already been practicing making a diploma for little fauss's really bad MBA with the gold foil thingy stuff. Who needs this joint?

    ;)
