Capitol University has pulled up stakes in the BVI and moved its file folder campus to the Commonwealth of Dominica. Their new address places them with IBC Services, Inc. in Roseau. Capitol is also sporting a new phone number in London.

Concordia C&U is also claiming Commonwealth of Dominica registration although it's maintaining mailing addresses in the USVI for US customers and in the BVI for everyone else.

Considering they're both run from Belgium, that's pretty amazing.

I keep sharing on this board that Gilligan's Island is open for new university ventures. Currently, GI only accredits Thurston Howell University, but with less than ten inhabitants there is a great need for more. With the advent of the Internet, this could be a lucrative investment. [IMG]

Thanks to TV Land's "Inside TV Land", I've discovered that at least one episode of "Get Smart" was filmed on the same set as "Gilligan's Island". The episode was entitled "Schwartz's Island", an off-hand reference to Sherwood Schwartz, one of the creators of "Gilligan's Island".

Therefore, it seems like more than one institute of higher learning can be accredited by that desolate piece of real estate.

In a serious vein, this got me thinking. Has there *ever* been a case of a legitimately accredited college or university packing up and moving across (US) state lines, or across international boundries? I can't think of any.

Well, almost all accredited universities have substantial brick-and-mortar facilities already in place; moving wouldn't be as likely. But at least two DL schools did it to facilitate their RA: Walden (moving their academic offices from Florida to Minnesota) and SCUPS (to Arizona to create NCU).

Also, many schools open and close branches across jurisdictional lines. National University opened then closed its Las Vegas offices. (It might also be out of Costa Rica; I haven't checked). The Union Institute opened then closed Union West (San Francisco).

    Russell,

Didn't Thurston leave behind a large endowment for the University?

Thurston Howell couldn't have endowed a University. He once said "If I cahn't take it with me, I WON'T GO!"

Yes he did, John, but the stipulation was that the university be named in honor of his 6th wife, Lovee---Lovee Howell Intercoastal University. However, the Board of Directors refused to use the name, and named the school Thurston Howell University. [IMG]

    I couldn't get past Mary Ann's endowment.

Russell, did "the professor" ever secure a faculty job with Thurston Howell University?

The only one I can think of is the Caribbean medical school (was it Ross?) that moved from one island nation (was it Montserrat?) to another (was it Dominica?) when their original island was virtually destroyed by volcanic action.

And perhaps a case can be made for Beacon College which moved, lock, stock, and just about the entire barrel, from Boston to Washington 20 years ago (they may have retained a small service office in Boston), but subsequently suffered financially, lost its regional accreditation, and folded.
