I see in the classified ads at the back of the August 30 Rolling Stone magazine a section headed "Colleges." There are only two ads. One is for "Term Paper Assistance." The other one is this:

UNIVERSITY DEGREES-You may qualify for a
    Bachelor's, Master's, or Ph.D. degree
based on your life and work experience.
    Free confidential evaluation.
    Accredited-student loans. www.arrc.org
    800-951-1203

The Web site says that this is the "Academic Resource & Referral Center," and gives an address in Louisville, Kentucky. The registration for the Web site states that the registrant is the JaM Corporation of Keauhou, Hawaii.

    It all sounds very questionable.

Though I didn't know it then, this is, perhaps, one of the VERY many reasons that I stopped reading Rolling Stone, those many, many years ago.

I still subscribe. I know it's only Rock 'n' Roll but I like it.

It's more than questionable... it's a complete and total fraud. ARRC has been around a long time, and exists for one reason... to "recommend" that students go to American State U., one of the only schools ever to be shut down by HI officials.

There's also HERI, which does the same sham for, I think, Hamilton U, and an equally fraudulent Greek organization, whose name escapes me, that refers people somewhere, but we don't know where.
