OK, I usually help out a little round here but I need the help this time... I cannot find, for the life of me, any other "Sociology" or "Social Sciences" master's degree (Stateside, with Fin Aid and RA) except the one at Syracuse U. It looks good but the friend I'm helping (after much bragging by me about my abilities in finding such thing) doesn't want to spend that much.

    Any ideas?

And, has anyone seen a "Forensic Psychology" bachelor's or master's program with the same stipulations (RA, Stateside, Fin Aid) I had read a bit about NCU starting one, but now that they have dropped their Title Four aid department, that's out.

    Thanks everyone!

According to Bears' Guide, 15th edition, California Institute of Integral Studies www.ciis.edu and Southwest Assemblies of God University www.sagu.edu offer master's degrees in sociology dl stateside. The only forensic psychology master's (and it is not stateside) listed in Bears' Guide is University of Leicester www.le.ac.uk . University of Central Florida http://distrib.ucf.edu and National University http://online.nu.edu offer dl master's degrees in forensic science, if that helps.

    Re: Re: Sociology Degree help

I don't think these schools offer a graduate degree in sociology in a dl format.

  4. The Union Institute has a Criminal Investigative Psychology concentration available within the MA/Psychology program described here. Something along those lines?

    Thanks Everyone.

Thanks, I thought as much... I'd like to see more US degrees in these subjects and in anthropology.

    Hello,

Athabasca University offers Athabasca University offers a BA degree in both Anthropology and Sociology. The school is Canadian and just achieved RA through Middle States. Obviously, Title IV is out of the question, but I thought I would mention this school since you mentioned Anthropology (even though the school is Canadian).

Just in case you find japhy's post intriguing, there are a bunch of Masters in Sociology programs at various Australian universities (not to mention the usual South African choices) and the frequently cited University of Wales-Lampeter Anthropology programs.

(Dan - I'm guessing that you already know about all these. I mentioned them primarily for any lurkers or newbies)

    Thanks

Yeah, I do know about these, and they are stand-up programs. Also, I have read a tad about using Fed student Aid internationally. I'm not certain how this works and my friend would have to go that route. I think we will focus on Canada and Athabasca. Again, it's nice to know you guys are there.

There is a UK master's program that is offering through the University of Salford and Manchester Metropolitan University. Both schools have FAFSA codes so there may be a good chance that your friend could get financial aid for the program.

Also, there are undergraduate programs at Fort Hays State and New Mexico State. Both are very inexpensive. (NMSU offers in-state tuition rates for out-of-state students as long as they are all online and you take six units or less per term.) So if an undergraduate degree is an option for you...

Would the MLS in Social Science Education at Fort Hays State University www.fhsu.edu or the MEd in Social Studies Education at University of Missouri www.mudirect.missouri.edu be of any interest?

Oh! Nova University www.nova.edu at one time offered MEd, EdS, and EdD degrees in Social Science Education. You might check out whether that's still the case.

    Re: Thanks

I am currently in my third course in Athabasca's MA in Integrated Studies program. It's an interdisciplinary degree and it could quite easily be used to concentrate in Sociology, and a little less easily for Anthropology. However, you can't use federal student aid at Athabasca. You can, however, use alternative loan programs like TERI (www.teri.org). Good luck. :)
