A question of cost…Big 3 Lets say hypothetically someone where to satisfy all of their degree requirements via testing (Clep/DSST) before enrolling. All they needed to do was to take the unique requirements of each school (example, at EC & COSC you must complete their 1 credit literacy requirement and their English comp exam). What would the be the cost breakdown to transfer all your exam credits in and take the required courses/exams unique to each school. Including Tuition, Fee’s, etc. Lets assume this is for a BA in Liberal Arts or General Studies. Anyone have any idea?
Excelsior: Enrollment Fee $ 995 Completion and Graduation Fee $ 495 Sub-total $ 1,490 Information Literacy Class (1 unit) $ 250 ECE English Composition $ 295 TOTAL $ 2,035
You might not need to complete the EC written English requirement if you have completed freshman comp (or something similar) at an RA (including a CC) already. They will not accept any of the CLEP exams for that requirement. They will accept courses from other colleges... Veterans and military personnel pay a lower enrollment fee. You would have to complete all requirements in less than a year for those fees above to hold true -- otherwise you'd be hit with an annual fee in addition. If you did have all requirements already met, finishing in a year would not be a problem. Just a few thoughts...
earlier this year I contacted all three and got the prices for this very thing. I didn't get any prices on the english comp or computer literacy stuff - only costs if one had everything ready to go and to transfer in. Off the top of my head... Excelsior and COSC were almost neck and neck at around $1400-1500. I think COSC was about $40 cheaper. TESC was around $1800. There is an old thread with more precise amounts on it. clint
I just enrolled in TESC. They raised their prices this summer. Out of state enrollment plus the required technology fee is 2120. Add the 210 required for graduation and the whole kit and kaboodle is 2330.00. That also assumes that you don't take more than a year. Otherwise you have to pay 2nd year tuition. That's less than first year tuition, but off the top of my head I couldn't tell you what it is since I won't be at the school that long.
