Well, I mailed my application, biographical essay and three letter of reference to CSU Dominguez Hills a few weeks ago. I called the admissions department and was advised they never received any of my paperwork and asked that I re-submit everything.

Needless to say, this did not make my day and I'm quite upset that my application (personal information) is floating somewhere in the mail or at CSU. My guess is that its at CSU and no one can find it.

I'm thinking this is a calling for me not to pursue a second master's and let my wife start her DL program at Fort Hays State University (she was accepted!). I'll maybe pursue some specialized certifications.

    Craig,

As a matter of fact, I have considered pursuing a DBA in the future. The only down side I can see is being considered "over qualified" for future employment. My father as a Ph.D and has run into this problem.

Columbia Southern University, our alma mater, is in the process of developing a DBA program. It will be reviewed by the DETC in early 2006. I'm going to at least wait to see CSU's DBA program. The dean of doctoral studies at CSU is a former administrator at NCU (Dr. Richard Gray).

On a side note, have you joined the Columbia Southern University Alumni Association (CSUAA)? If not, I encourage you to do so. I was elected as a CSU Alumni President for 2005-2006 and were making many positive changes for students, graduates and CSU.

Some of the items implemented were the DET Honor Society and were currently updating the website. You'll find a updated newsletter at the alumni website:

    http://www.colsouth.edu/alumni/index.html

It would be great if you could provide your success story for the next newsletter. Your ideas, input and suggestions on how to improve our alumni would be great. Many of the CSU students and graduates have provided outstanding ideas.

CSU is one of the few DETC schools forming a strong alumni organization.

On a somewhat related note: I ALWAYS mail important documents using "certified, return receipt" mail. It'll cost you more, but the peace of mind is worth it. With this feature, you can track your package online, and you'll get a postcard back once the package has been received with the signature of the person who signed for it and the time it was delivered.

Now, if the school lost it...that's a whole other story.

I had thing after thing happen with UIS -- lost transcripts, lost letters, noncommunication, dropped courses -- by the time I found out I was accepted I said, No Thanks!

My favorite was that they wanted a transcript from a college I hadn't attended. Took a bit to clear that one up.

Anything I mail next time to a university will go certified mail. I was confident sending it through the US Post Office. I only live about four hours away from CSU-DH, so it would have gotten their in a few days. It was sent "attention" to the program director, so if it got lost at the university, you would think it would be forwarded to who it's addressed to.

I'm confident it made it to CSU, but got lost in the shuffle and now they can't find it. They want me to re-send it to the same address where it got lost, which means I have to request my transcripts again and letters of reference again. No thanks!

As I said, it appears this is a calling for me to not pursue my second master's, especially at CSU-DH. Maybe I'll pursue a DBA at Columbia Southern University when it becomes available in 2006.

I'm actually studying right now for my CFE (Certified Fraud Examiner) through the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners. Anyone interested in pursuing this should check out their new and updated website:

Alright....I've cooled my heels and after much thought and consideration, I'm re-submitting my paperwork to CSU-DH.

I have an extension until October 7th to get my paperwork in. My transcripts from Columbia are in mail and on there way to me.

I've learned my lesson to never send important doucments via regular snail mail. This time, it's going certified mail, next day air, Internet tracking, you name it!

    go get 'em

Good luck to you, Jamie. Everybody has had a glitch in procedures at some point. I'm glad it did not deter you. You got smarts and guts to beat any bureaucracy.

PS: "on their way" (the way of them) not "on there way"
