Can anyone direct me toward a AACSB accredited DBA where an MBA is not required or the MBA is made up for in the DBA coursework?

I did a search for threads on such topics, but only found a few references to it.

    Thanks!

AACSB does not accrediate anything after master degrees.(unless something has changed) Although you can get a doctorate at an AACSB accrediated school the doctoral program is not accrediated.

    Rivers:
    Thanks for that info.

With that in mind, let me rephrase the question:
Does anyone know of a DBA program where the MBA is not required or is a part of the DBA curriculum. I am open to schools whose MBA is either accredited or not by the AACSB.

    Thanks!

    Incorrect

An oft repeated (on this site), incorect statement. A quote from AACSB's own web site.

"Organized in 1916, AACSB International is the premier accrediting agency for bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degree programs in business administration and accounting. ".

    Egg on my face

sometimes a fallacy repeated enough is believed to be true. I stand corrected after searching the AACSB web site and looking deep in to the Doctoral programs I did find information pertaining to the accrediation of Doctoral Degrees(to be sure that they actually accrediated them, I then cross referenced various insitituions on the AACSB website and found data pertaining to their doctoral programs).
SO for all on the board AACSB does accrediate doctoral programs. Now if there are any offered through DL is another whole ball of wax.

USQ has a DBA that can be started without an MBA. The MBA is part of the DBA itself. Not accredited by the AACSB but at least with the intention of applying for this accreditation by next year. Not sure if they will get it but at least is a close match to your requirements.

NCU's DBA can also be started without an MBA.

I think that the lack of AACSB accreditation can be made up by adding extra credentials to your CV as a CPA, CFA, CMC, etc. Many accounting teaching jobs look for a CPA and not so much for AACSB accreditation. In the case of Information Systems, many schools look for commercial certifications as A+, Microsoft, CISCO, etc instead of the AACSB accreditation.

Yeah, there are some, but none in the U.S. I don't know if they all require an MBA or MS in Business, although I know some of these do.

AACSB accredited Business Doctorate programs via DL:

    Henley Management College (UK)
    Aston University (UK)
    Manchester University (UK)
    Grenoble (France)

Some pretty good schools there (very good, actually), but not all that well-known in the US, and all of them have residency requirements (not sure about Grenoble), so it wouldn't exactly be a cheap degree if you live in the States, what with the air travel and accomodations in Europe.

    Another such program

Check out Strathclyde's PhD or DBA in Management Science, which doesn't require an MBA or MS upfront. You get an MPhil on the way to the PhD and usually an MSc on the way to the DBA.

    Re: Another such program

Would you be so kind as to direct me to a link to this DL program? I can't find it (at least the specifics of the DL component) on the Strathclyde site.

    Thanks,

All of the above-mentioned schools (especially Grenoble and Henley) require significant residency. Over the life of the program you'll spend just as much for flights, hotels, meals, transportation as you will on tuition. I would harldly classify them as DL, since they do not employ any time of DL technologies; simply external research with on-site workshops once or twice a year and constant communications with doctoral superviors.

Heriot-Watt has a DBA which requires no residency. An MBA or other graduate degree in a relevant field is required, but if you don't have one, you can start in the MBA program, then transition straight into the DBA. If you choose your MBA electives to match with the DBA requirements, that shortens time considerably.

Wow, I never realized this before, but if you do the MBA with the strategic planning specialty, you would only need another 3 courses + dissertation (which is guided by 3 research courses) to get your DBA!

Heriot-Watt is a good school but is not accrediated by AMBA,EQUIS or AACSB. So I would not have included it this discussion.

The University of Newcastle(Australia)is another DBA programme that I would look at if considering a DBA, but again it is not accrediated by AACSB,AMBA or EQUIS.

    Heriot-Watt DBA

    Hold on a minute!!!

No residency of any sort for the DBA? Not even ONE visit?

This is music to my ears. I had pretty much decided to apply to NCU and I have the application nearly completed but my heart has always been set on doing the DBA at Edinburgh at HW.

I have inquired from the school but I have yet to get a reply.

    Anyone know definitively?

I have a copy of the DBA student guide and I don't see anywhere that a residency is required.

I would like to know the offical answer you get back from HWU.

Well, I think Henley and Grenoble/Newcastle require quite a few 1 week residencies over the life of the 5 year program.
