Hi. Am new to this board. Have Bear's Guide to Distance Education and find it very valuable.

I am a certificated teacher, endorsed to teach Secondary chemistry, physics, earth science, and biology. I have alot of math courses as well, but not enough to meet the math endorsement requirement for the state.

Can someone tell me whether Bear's Guide to Education Degrees by Distance Learning includes in its school program descriptions either the requirements for a teaching math minor or if one is offered? If so, I will happily buy the book.

    Thanks,
    Sam

The University of Idaho offers a Master of Arts in teaching mathematics.

Also, Nova Southeastern offers an M.S. and Ed.S. in Innovative Teaching in Math as well as what I think is an MS in Mathematics Education.

I'm not sure if this answers your question but at least you know you have couple options for getting certified to teach math.

Seems like Texas A&M offers a dl masters in math too -- it's heavier on theory & history of mathematics, but it probably has enough math classes to fit the bill.

Now, having said that -- I was in the opposite boat from you. I had the math courses for my license but was just under the wire with the sciences. I contacted the state DPI and asked how many courses I needed to add those sciences to my license and they told me. When I took that number of courses, I tuned in the paperwork and the additional areas were added to my continuing license.

    Thanks re math endorsement, but...

    Hey Theo, mcdirector, and PhD2B...

Thanks much for the replies. Unfortunately, I did not make it clear enough that I am not interested in a Masters in Math Teaching. I am getting Masters in Neuropsychology. It is a math minor from an accredited distance education school with a program in Secondary Teaching that I need. I am already a certificated teacher, but want to add the math endorsement, which requires minimum of 20 sem. hours from a school that offers a math minor and also a teaching math major.

If you have further thoughts, I'd be mighty glad to hear them.

    Thanks,
    Sam:D

maybe these will be a start.

UIL online cert in 6-12 math ed

They only show 3 courses at 4 hours each online. You have to go to their campus 2x a sem. There may be more courses that they don't have listed. Their site has not always been up-to-date.

    ----------------------------------------------

    WGU -- teaching math bachelors

    WGU math teaching postbac cert

    ----------------------------------------------

Converse College -- courses for secondary teachers

    ----------------------------------------------

Any of the schools with master's programs listed about, might also have undergrad math programs with online courses too.
