My daughter signed up with Education Direct for an accounting degree but she's not yet begun the courses.

I want to recommend to her instead that she look for an RA associates degree in accounting so she can sit for the Delaware CPA exam. She's in Minnesota but you can get certification in DE with no experience or residency. All you need is a regionally accredited degree (at least an associates) with 21 credits of specific accounting classes. Once you pass the exam you just pay the fee and you have your certificate (not license) for good.

Of course she wouldn't be able to hold herself out as a licensed MN CPA, but a CPA certificate would look good on her resume and set her up for a pretty good job, most likely in industry. Also, she would be able to represent clients before the IRS, a big plus should she like to get into the tax game. If at a later date she feels that she really needs to have MN licensure, she could do additional work to obtain the 150 credit bachelors in accounting.

Does anybody know of a cheap, RA associates degree with plenty of accounting classes offered and if possible one which allows lots of CLEP and Dantes transfer? Thanks. I'm looking for the fastest way to enable my daughter to land a great paying job which will leave her more energy to spend time with her kids. (She's in a physically demanding factory job at present.)

    Hello,

As a hopeful future CPA myself, I have reviewed the educational requirements of several states.

Just wanted to make sure you are aware of this Delaware requirement:

"Correspondence courses, on-line courses, and distance courses are acceptable towards the U.S. Federal taxation requirement only. These courses must be taken through a regionally accredited school.".

    That would mean that:

    Introductory Accounting
    Intermediate Accounting
    Advanced Accounting
    Cost Accounting
    Audit

Would have to be taken in person.

Oh geez thanks for pointing that out. I totally misread the data on the NASBA site.

There's a possibility she could do those courses locally but it would be tough with her schedule.
