I've done a search of the threads but didn't turn up a list of any DL masters in Film Studies or Communications. Would one of the whizzes of the keyboard be able to help me find something? The googles I've tried have turned up the usual suspects but nothing interesting. Thanks so much. Deb
More information Should have added that Union is too expensive. I'm hoping to do the whole thing for under $10,000. The unusal suspects are UoP and all the other schools that immediately pop-up when you google distance learning. I would prefer US since that is what I am familiar with. RA since the ultimate goal is teaching. Deb
I know you are most familiar with U.S. schools but for that field, the UK and Australian schools really have the best and cheapest selection... and probably pretty decent quality. For example, these programs: http://www.shu.ac.uk/schools/cs/profcomm/programmeOverview.html
There are lots of Communications programs: Central Queensland U Charles Sturt U Regent U Rensselaer Polytech Seton Hall Texas Tech Victoria U to name a handfull. Film Studies is more scarce. I've only got two: U of Melbourne U of Wales - Aberystwyth I'll bet that others will know more. Good luck. Jack
Additional Communication master's degrees: Curtin University of Technology http://cea.curtin.edu.au (BG15, 107) University of New England www.une.edu.au (BG15, 141) University of Pretoria www.up.ac.za (BG15, 143) Southwest Missouri State University http://smsuonline.smsu.edu (BG15, 131) Southwest Assemblies of God University www.sagu.edu (BG15, 173) Syracuse University www.yesu.syr.edu (BG15, 174) Technikon of South Africa www.tsa.ac.za (BG15, 132) University of South Australia www.unisa.edu.au (BG15, 145) University of Southern Queensland www.usqonline.com.au (BG15, 146)
Here's site with some other links for programs. http://www.freewebs.com/dlasap/arts.htm I actually had found it from another thread regarding science programs, but it has a pretty good listing of DL Masters and a few Doctorate degrees in both. Hope it helps.
Academy of Art University offers an AA and BFA in directing, screenwriting, production, cinematograpy, etc. I don't think they're RA but have accreditation and are able to process federal financial aid. They also offer a wholly online MFA in Motion Picture and Television production. The MFA rates seem high, though, at 650 per credit for 63 credits. Still, this is good for anyone looking for an online program like this. I looked at Miami International University and University of Miami (local to me) and their tuition was about the same.
Even though they aren't RA, they're one of those rare examples where it doesn't seem to matter in the industry. AAU is very well respected in the studio art, film, and photography industries.
You're right. Especially in film, you're success is based on your work, not your education. But its good to have if you're looking for a job in a studio.
