Hello! I am happy to report I as of today I have finished my MBA through Baker College. It took me a long time to decide on an MBA program, but overall I have been very pleased with Baker. MY question is this. After about half way through my MBA at Baker, I was laid off from my IT position which made me take stock and decided I wanted to go a totally different way in my career. I would like to be able to teach online, but wonder how difficult is it to break into? I know UOP requires that you have your graduate degree for 2 years, so that is out. Though UOP did send my information to one of their colleges called Axia College Online, though I saw on their website they require the 2 years of having your graduate degree. Even so, they did invite me to apply, and of course I did! I would appreciate any insight any of you might have. I tried searching for topics on this, but nothing came up, so forgive me if I am starting a topic that has already been discussed. Teri
Congratulations on finishing your M.B.A.!! You should check these websites on a daily basis; http://www.chronicle.com/jobs http://www.higheredjobs.com I don't know what specialization you have, but Corinthian Colleges is recruiting online adjuncts in a few business areas; http://cci.edu/onlineemployment.asp
Congratulations on your achievement! My first question is whether your MBA included at least 18 credits in any one field, e.g. Management. If not, you may wish to take a few more courses so as to qualify to teach. I'm told that Keiser College (my employer) has the hardest time finding qualified Finance and Statistics instructors, so if either of those floats your boat, you may want to upgrade to 18 credits there. Good luck! -=Steve=-
Really? Do the 18 credits need to have the same course prefix? For example, a prefix for classes in the statistics department at UF is STA. I'm taking courses in statistics, but through different departments. I'm taking Econometrics, Quantitative Methods, Geostatitics, etc. All of which are still statistics classes, but have different prefixes with them. Would I be eligible to teach at Keiser?
While I'm a very far cry from being the one who makes that decision, it's my repeated observation that prefix codes matter to an inordinate degree and that as a result no, you would not be able to teach Statistics for Keiser College. Other schools may interpret SACS guidelines differently. -=Steve=-
