... please share your success stories!

I'm just curious how many members of this discussion forum have earned a DL graduate degree and have managed to land jobs teaching in B&M community colleges (or universities).

If you happen to be one of these people, please share your success story here. I'm curious how the community college viewed your DL degree during the application process, etc.

I look forward to hearing from some of you.

I'm an adjunct at a CC, but not on the strength of my unfinished online MBA, it's because of my law degree. I'll let you know when I finish (probably next year) and let you know how it goes, presuming that I'm still in the mode of seeking a FT teaching position. I may yet go a different direction and use the MBA skills elsewhere.

By the way, why haven't you joined us yet at UMass? We have an online MBA program that you can't swing a digital cat by the tail through without hitting three doctors.

    Where have you been?

    :D

I've been obviously wasting my time trying to understand the origin of the universe, black holes and dark matter (ala the course in cosmology I'm taking). I'm such a geek. :p

Distance Ed and a Full Time CC Professor

I hold three graduate degrees. My first, an M.A. from Eastern Michigan University, was completed before there was such a beast as online learning. The second and third grad degrees I did online. I also hold an Ed.S. in instructional technology from Valdosta State University and an M.B.A. from the AACSB-accredited Morehead State University. And I am a fulltime community college professor.

I'm an adjunct at a local community college as well. I don't have a masters - I graduated with my BA only last May.

I knew that the CC sometimes hired people with BA's to teach as adjuncts, so I talked with a couple people I know at the CC and expressed that I'd always wanted to teach at a CC.

One thing led to another, and I got a call asking if I'd teach a couple computer classes. My degree is actually in sociology, but I've been working with computers since 1983.

I've been enjoying teaching quite a bit. I wonder if the experience will help me land a GTA should I decide to do grad school at KU...

It might help, but such experience certainly isn't necessary. I pretty much think that all GTAs and fellowships are awarded on the basis of academic merit: GPA, strength of UG school, standardized test scores, strength of references, etc. My wife was awarded a GTA because she graduated Magna from a good private school.

Do you mean the University of Kansas in Lawrence? If so, I live within two hours of the campus.

Yes. Now all I have to do is get accepted, sell my house, buy a house in Lawrence, get a job, figure out a way to pay for it...

No wonder DL is so appealing.
