I enrolled in several courses about 10 days ago and haven't received any materials.

I emailed 3 days ago with no response.

Called today and was on hold for 40 minutes before giving up.

Their web site says they are operating but it sure doesn't seem like it.

Anyone been in touch with LSU Independent Study after Katrina?

Try the campus police department, they're probably the most likely to answer the phone.

The 'Chronicle of Higher Education' has just posted a story dated 9-9 (available to non-subscribers!) about what's happening with the impacted colleges and universities on the Gulf Coast.

    http://chronicle.com/free/v52/i03/03a00101.htm

Amidst lots of very interesting stuff, there's this:

Larry H. Hollier, dean of the university's School of Medicine, issued an urgent plea on Wednesday for faculty members, medical residents, and medical students to help care for patients at a staging area at the university's main campus, in Baton Rouge. Patients were being airlifted from flooded hospitals in downtown New Orleans.

The Baton Rouge campus has canceled classes until this week so it can coordinate medical and other rescue efforts, as well as house storm refugees.

It sounds as if things might be a little crazy at LSU right now.

Because of having a large vet school and nearly 400 stalls they are also heavily involved in large animal rescue. They are where most of the carriage horses and mules have ended up.

I think everyone in the school will be busy with some form of recovery for awhile.

Hey Vincey...Baton Rouge is a complete mess right now. LSU has taken on lots of Hurricane relief functions. The traffic is a nightmare because we doubled our population overnight. It takes me almost 2 hours to drive to work 15 miles. I can't speak for LSU Independent Study but if it's anything like the rest of the city it's insane right now.

You can learn so many things here!!!

A friend who recently visited New Orleans was discussing the situation with me one day last week. One thing that she was concerned about in addition to the people affected was what happened to the animals. She said at one point, "I wonder what happened to all the horses and mules that pulled carriages?"

I passed on the post by Deb...it was nice to hear that many of the horses and mules have been rescued.

FWIW... I remember that it took over a week to receive my initial package from LSU IS as well.

I'm taking a distance course with them right now and the communication between the instructor, the office, and myself seems to be working just fine. They sent the mid-term to the proctor right after I e-mailed them about it.

They received my wife's final from the proctor on Aug 25. The grade was posted yesterday, Sep 13. So while it did take almost a week longer than it should have, with Katrina, that was to be expected.

But with the grade being posted, I assume that means they are getting to the student materials...

I'm enrolled in a calculus class, but need an extension. I've tried emailing, never got an answer. I've tried calling and I get a message saying "All circuts are currently busy." Their fax line seems to working fine though.
