From the above article: emphasis mine Real world professionals teaching business. What a concept! I am one of those students. I insist on having instructors with current real world experience. Just my opinion
I've always been of the opinion that I don't need to find a proxy for the real world to learn about it. Of course learning about the real world is made much easier when one has a theoretical background. Its easier to see patterns and create abstractions you can use to govern your day-to-day decisions. Unfortunately, what the real world doesn't teach you is theory because while you may be able to make reasonable hypotheses, the "real world" seldom gives you the chance to prove them out using a scientific method. So, for my buck, keep the has-been CEOs and rule-of-thumb pontificates on the sidelines. Give me the theories and show me how they were proven. I'll make my own way through the "real world" -- thank you very much.
