Which program is, in your opinion, the most prestigious totally DL Masters in the UK?

    I want to nominate:

    1. Imperial College MBA(University of London)

    2. MSc. in Chinese Business and International Relations (Sheffield-the 3 residencies may be waived in you are not taking the Chinese language courses)

    3. MA in Public Policy and Management (University of York)

    4. MA War in the Modern World (King's College, University of London)

5.Master of Public Health (London School of Hygiene and tropical Medicine, University of London

    6. Durham MBA (University of Durham-the residential workshops may be waived)

    7. Durham MA in Management(University of Durham-the residential workshops may be waived)

What are your opinions? Are there other prestigious programs I omitted?

IMPORTANT: My list is simply a list, not a ranking.

If I remember correctly, Oxford has a Masters program (LLM) in Human Rights that probably deserves to be one your list.

Jack, if you read my opening paragragh, you will notice i was referring to TOTALLY Dl programs, and that is why I didn't include Oxford, Cambridge's MSt. in International Relations and Warwick's MBA program.

I agree with you that Oxford (and Cambridge) simply play in a league of their own

The reason I decided to exclude them is that even the smallest residential requiment can make a program impossible to complete for many people.

Would Leicester be considered prestigious as well?

They offer several DL Masters degrees.

As a benchmark -- well, at least someone's benchmark -- I note there is a new edition of "Which MBA: a critical guide to the world's best programmes" published by The Economist's Intelligence Unit. It has had the same author for about 20 years, so at least there is consistency. And it has a section on distance learning. About $30 on Amazon.

Yes, OK. I'm not really familiar with that Oxford program and didn't know that it wasn't 100% non-residential.

My next contribution to the list then would be the various Masters level offerings at the University of Wales. The Lampeter site has some very interesting programs in their Anthropology department. I'm unsure as to whether other departments also have offerings at that level.

Actually the whole university seems to be going DL. Anthropolgy, History, Philosophy, Classics, Philosophy, Theology and Religious Study; almost all degrees are offered through DL at these departments.

Is Lampeter very prestigious? In the UK alone or abroad as well?

I recently contacted the head of the Business Ethics MA (Philosophy Department), and I did not like the vagueness and innacuracy of info I found on their website, including nonexistent bursaries for overseas students.

Dr. Bear, it's nice to read a post from you here.

I probably own the only 3 copies of your Distance learning Guide in Cuba (12TH, 13TH And 14th Editions; I have been unable to lay my hands on the last one)

What are, in your opinion, the most prestigious WHOLY Distance Learning degrees in the UK?
