Well...I'm finished. After slamming my head against the wall a few times over the course of an hour from the 2 1/2 hour exam time trying to figure out some of these questions (which were not all easy), I passed the course! Almost a "B" (2pts. shy). Its not typical of my ability, so no big deal. I don't really care about the percentage grade (Pass/Fail), but I agree with those who have posted: waste of time and money.

Its the only course I'm taking from Excelsior. On to the next thing....

    Hello,

If you've ever used EbscoHost, Google, the Library, Email, APA or MLA writing formats, know how to conduct a periodic review of material from journals and so forth, can write a paper, or know something about searching on the internet...then you'll be fine.

Expect the course to consist of misspellings, grammatical errors, vague quiz/test questions, and a few sleeper assignments that make real college homework assignments look like grade school. If you have ample experience with these above skills, you'll see it as a waste of time and money. In other words, if you had a lot of experience in college you'll do fine. If you've had little experience in these skills or college, read everything they prescribe. At the very least, its interesting information...like the copyright topics, for example. The course is really made for the college freshman still wet behind the ears from never seeing the inside of a high school library (IMHO). Many who have taken this course have found it useless...simply because we have the experience.

As many of us who have taken this class now think, you may come away from it wondering why they required this silly course of everyone.

Hint: The final exam will mirror many of the quiz questions...but study the stuff the quizzes don't cover too.

I scored 100% numerous times on the quizzes, and then did fairly well (though not to my personal expectations) on the final.

    Good luck...you'll do fine.

One truly bad thing about this course is that it may set the really new DL student up for future failure.

I say this because the demands of this course are nowhere near the demands of other courses the student is bound to face in his college career. INL102 is a pretty poor example of an online course of any intensity whatsoever. It is what is known in many colleges as a "skate course" or a "sleeper".

IMHO - the FEMA IS courses and Army AIPD courses are more difficult. Difficulty aside, the course material is also poorly presented and seems to me to not follow any reasonable pattern of delivery.

The delivery is nothing more than text and the assignments are truly basic.

The testing is not even close to the standards one will face in an online course from the likes of BYU or LSU.

These are just my opinions though -- other's mileage may vary.

I see that I'm not the only one feeling this is just a disguised RIP OFF of a course.

    From another point of view:

I was discussing this with a friend that has just begun her MSc in Instructional Technology. Her first reaction was "I wish I could have gotten credit for courses like that..."

Then, of course, our discussion went on into the pedagogical failures of this particular presentation.

    Hello,
I have finished the modules and would like to know how many questions are in the Final Exam and what is the max time allocated.
Also since this is an open book exam did you have the time to look up some of the answers.
    Thank you Much

just from memory, because I wasn't concerned enough to pay much attention:

    50 questions - 120 minutes.... I think

Many of the questions were exact duplicates from the quiz assignments. Those that weren't, were not all that difficult.

I had no trouble with the time allowed.

That's the way I remember it. Questions from quizzes or just as straight forward.

    Passed Escelsior INL 102

Thank you all for your help.
I passed the course today with 92%.
It took me a week to complete the course, I spent about 15 hours reviewing the course material and taking the quizzes.
The final exam is 50 questions and 150 minutes, which is penty of time.
This course is very easy especially if your already familiar with some of the material covered, which I would assume most of us here are.

Ok, I'm about to enroll in this, my very last credit requirement to get my AS at Excelsior. It's probably been explained already in this and other posts, and am looking through them now, but, just in case someone has it fresh and doesn't mind giving me two short phrases, I only want to ask:

    1) Is this an entirely online course?

    2) Is the final exam and all the others (if any) all done online; that is, no need for local proctor?

    3) Is the total cost now $250, with no extras for book requirements, etc.?

Abner, so when are you coming back to Spain? You make it sound so ideal...well, I guess it's OK. I don't go to the "Museo del Jamon" but I do eat those products you mentioned regularly. Also Paellas, Lentejas, and many other things.
Party? Yes I guess it just will take some time to sink in that I finally got "some" degree (a long time dream). For one thing it is a good stepping stone for a future Bachelor's Degree. Just thinking I got some of the hardest subjects--Statistics, Accounting, Macro-Micro Ecnomics and so on--out of the way is a happy thought.
Anyways, I will definitively post a more throrough reflection here once I'm done.
I enrolled in the IL at EXC yesterday and about to start working on it today.
    Keep you posted.

Maybe next year. I just had a huge expense recently with my roof, cost several thousand dollars to replace. So the "Museo del Jamon" will have to wait.

Congrats on your degree, you deserve it!
