I know...or at least hope so, that the spike in gas prices are temporary but I feel sure Katrina will "fuel" more online learning! Thus making the naysayers of the online format a smaller and smaller minority.

And this has what to do with the price of tea in China, again?

[shakes head in disbelief... and sighs]

(And they thought my spammers stuff was disrespectful. Sheesh!)

    Trust me... you're price-gouging.

And in the wrong forum (try "off-topic" next time).

And kinda', sorta' trolling a little, too... albeit really weirdly.

Under the circumstances, it wouldn't bother me a bit if the mods deleted this thread. 'Course... that's just me.

    Thanks Elms,
Just how bitter is your life, when you simply can't contol everyones thought?

Why would I try to control something about you which you, yourself, can't seem to control? After all... you're the expert on you.

I think the point was that an online learner does not incur the cost of transportation to class.

If some one had to choose between online and say, a 30 mile drive several times a week, the cost of gas begins to factor into the cost of education.

And the more people who take legitmate online classes the more the degrees will be accepted.

Fuel prices have been going up for quite for some time. It would take more than high fuel prices for online education naysayers to cede.

Not to come across as self righteous or attacking anyone, but a little more sensitivity is in order, while the effects of Katrina still unfold. Maybe its my post 9-11 thinking.

I wonder...is DesElms actually at least two people?

Not all threads can be gems, eh Gregg?

Remember this thread? I think it should have been categorized in the "I'm paranoid" or "I'm really bored" forum.

    Thanks Kebauch,
That's what my post was all about...people weighing the cost of commuting to a traditional campus vs. an online campus. I realize this is much on the lighter side of all the havoc Katrina did, but I was by no means trying to play down all the suffering occuring in Ala., La. & Miss., likewise for those same folks the cost of gas seems very trival when everything they love and own is scattered across three counties.
However, I feel sure many people outside of Katrina's destruction are feeling their already tight budgets being ratcheted up one more notch by escalating fuel costs and are seriously considering an online format; with many of these same folks perhaps dismissing this option earlier as a good means to a college degree. Maybe once they dive in, a few more DL advocates will be added to the list!

Noooooo, Nooooo, not making light of Katrina at all! Living in SC and making fun of a Hurricane's aftermath is bad Karma.
    Best,
    Gavin

I cannot respond to this in the way I'd really like to because doing so would require that I also take a swipe at Lerner... which I've just promised him that I would not do for the time being while he contemplates a proposal that I've put before him.

So I'll simply say, as an alternative response, that if we're judged, in part, by our enemies (or, at the very least, our detractors) as well as our friends, then I'm grateful to have the likes of you as the former.

If that's the case, then I was either too tired or too stupid -- or maybe it was just not clearly written enough for me -- to grasp it at the time. If so, then I apologize to buckwheat3 for criticizing it here.

    By the way Elms,
If you want to attack something again, do us all a favor and take a handgun to your kneecap, that way you could have a real theme to piss and moan about!

Damn this guy! You try starting a thread hopefully worthy of some light conversation and here comes "ol Greggy" with his everyday central theme of "Everyone is a troll worthy of banishment" simply because they dont meet his preconcieved personal criteria...yea Elms you're right I hope the Moderators are watching, I for one am very sick and tired of your attacks on semmingly everything!

If contributing five dollars to a fund so you can buy a remote island somewhere in the South Pacific, to fullfill some deeply seeded inner wish of proclaiming yourself lord, king and intellectual master over all the sand crabs, then I'll throw in an additional 10 bucks to know you finally pinched and scampered your way to the top of your little world, but with one condition you take that CO2 generator of yours and fall off the earth!

I dont like flames no more than the next guy, but I wont stand for Elms haughty remarks anymore!

I usually don't reply to these kind of threads, but...

It's sad when in a forum that is about the excitement of learning someone consistently posts messages that are dripping with bitterness.

I agree with the message at the beginning of this thread. In fact I just dropped two fall classes at my local community college (on the last day of the drop/add period!) to take them online instead. Gas prices and traffic was a deciding factor.

I find it humorous that before I read this thread, earlier today I was thinking about the fact that I am glad I am working on an online degree because of the absurd price of gas. ;)

Gregg, you're taking this forum thing a little too seriously.

Occasional detractor maybe, but enemy, definitely not. :)
