I am finishing the e-Cornell 6 month certificate program in Human Resource Management. I want to make a transition from ESL (10 years in this field) to HR/Training and hope this will help make a difference. It was quite well done, and made difficult and large topics such as benefits clear and how it works "in the real world."

I'm going to take the PHR this fall and don't really feel like e-Cornell will help much with that. (But it did make issues and scenarios much clearer. ) I'm using the HRCP series to prep for that.

I've completed the MS Ed in Online Teaching and Learning from Cal State Hayward and have a BA Liberal Arts.

What I want to do is specialize in Health and Safety Training. I'm looking at a couple of programs such as a Masters Publlic Health with a concentratoin in Environmental Management at APUS.

Can someone more knowledgable in this give me some advice? I've been out of the USA for 10 years and have no idea what the job market is like.

I think the MPH is a great degree, however given that you have been out of the country for so long and that you have zero background in public health or industrial safety, I would highly highly highly suggest a good on-campus program, even if just part-time. The face to face networking aspect of it VERY important when career changing.

However, a MPH might be overkill. The CSP (Certified Safety Specialist) or CIH (Certified Industiral Hygenist) might be enough. I believe they can be done DL, or done at some colleges. Some MPH programs might include them as well.
