Hello kinv - Welcome to the forum. There's a bit of info that you could provide that might make it easier to help. Because your area of interest is a bit uncommon (in terms of DL offerings) it would be helpful to know how you'd like to use the degree and where you are currently enrolled. That aside, I can tell you that there are programs that might interest you at
    Salve Regina U
    Troy State U
    UNISA
    U of Wales-Lampeter
There are also programs in Conflict Resolution/Peace Studies at
    Antioch U
    Cal State Dominguez Hills
    Monash U
    Nova Southeastern U
    Good luck.

Tmartca , Ted and Jack… thanks a lot for the help :)

Actually, I’ve looked into all these given links and found these universities excellent and affordable same time.

    1- University of Wales-Lampeter

    2- Salve Regina University

    3- Troy State University

4- St. Mary's University of San Antonio

What do you all think? Which one is best and why?

The University of Southerm Mississippi has a Ph.D. in international development that allows you to apply your master's degree, in whatever discipline, and other experiences to the program. I believe the degree is mostly done through dl with periodic visits. Unfortunately, the website is down (probably due to the hurricane).

Salve Regina is a very nice little school in Rhode Island but I don't think I've ever heard anyone refer to it as "affordable."

Salve Regina is at $350 per credit, not as cheap as Troy but not as expensive as many.

I've talked to them on the phone on their MS in Management, which is pretty interesting because you can take International Relations courses and apply them to the MSM. I have to ask them about their graduate enhancement program which everybody has to complete.

SR is pretty flexible, in that you can take a mix of self paced classes and 8 week online courses.

I'm not looking for what is cheap. I'm looking for the best school.

what do you think of St. Mary's University ?

    Excellent!

But the thing is that St. Mary's University gives joint degree. That’s why I’m still hesitating.

    Please give me your advice

It's an MSt, there's eight weeks of residency and it only enrols every other year. Next incoming class, October 2007. Cheaper than KCL, though.

The reason I’m taking DL is that I cannot leave my job, only weekends. There is no “summer time” for me either.

Hi kinv, we are looking for the same kind of programs.

I have applied to the MA in International Policy and Diplomacy at Staffordhire University. It costs GBP3750 and you pay as you go.

If you are interested, I suggest you rush to apply, as classes are about to begin. Here's the website:

    http://www.staffs.ac.uk/schools/humanities_and_soc_sciences/irp/ma_ipddist.htm

Also, have you checked Tuft's Fletcher School Global MA program? Extremely prestigious and, at 52000 dollars, not exactly a bargain.

    http://fletcher.tufts.edu/default.htm

If you provide more details of what you plan to do with your degree, there are many people here that willl be able to help you better.

There are, for instance, programs concentrating in China or the Asia Pacific regions, in International Criminal Justice, and the like.

It would also be helpful to know where you live or plan to live.

    I hope this helps.

    Good luck,

    Re: Re: postgraduate programs

Ted, I cannot find the program in their website. Do you have any additional information on it?

I hope you've solved the issue with AMU

BA in 4 weeks certainly gives a snappy overview of the process.

    Joi,

Is that the tuition rate for international students as well??

    Yes, it is.

That's what I'm going to pay if accepted.

They also have Masters degrees (several) in Sustainable Development, NGOs and Sustainable Development and Governance and Sustainable Development, all with optional residential components and at about the same tuition rate.

All the Masters degress in Development studies (but NOT the MA in International Policy and Diplomacy) can be completed full-time in a year.

The Governance and Sustainable Development shares half of the courses offered by the MA in International Policy and Diplomacy.

If you are interested, RUSH, because classes begin at the end of September. They also have a January intake.

If you are interested in obtaining a UK-based Masters degree totally at a distance, why don't you evaluate the Online Masters in Public Poly and Management from York University? It can also be completed full-time in a year, and tuition will depend on your location (for instance, official tuition is GBP 9000, but when I told them I lived in Cuba, they told me that I would only have to pay GBP 4000. You can complete it part-time in 2 to 3 years, or full-time in 1 year.

The program has a very strong international flavour.

They have a quite good installment plan.

The Program coordinator is Theo Cuthbertson, who is impressively friendly and provides excellent advice (she gives very precise answers and has always answered my queries the following day).

The program director is Ellen Roberts, also a very kind and helpful lady. She is the professor for the Induction Module, which began September 1st.

I am enrolled full-time and, up to the moment, very, very happy with the whole program.

I have yet to receive my study materials for the first 3 subjects, which begin September 28th, but what I have seen at the moment, such as study manuals, handbooks, CDs and a even a mouse mat is very good. Clear, concise, of good quality.

    This is their website:

    http://www.york.ac.uk/depts/spsw/gsp/mappmCO.html

    I hope this helps.

We might end up being classmates:D

    Good luck,

I have been looking for a development program. I initially was looking exclusively at sustainable development programs thinking that international development programs were not relevant to a person who lives in the United States and aims for a career in local government or a private sector that consults with local and state governments.

However, looking at the events of this past week I can see that many parts of my country are closer to third world conditions while masquerading as a cutting edge first world community. Ironically, my first choice would have been Tulane's International Development program. However...

The Sustainable Development programs that I looked into were at University of London, Central Queensland University (AU) and Staffordshire. I looked into the Staffordshire program a couple of years ago, but at that time (from the website) residencies were required. It seems that things have changed.

I was also looking at a program in Public Policy. I wanted something more in the area of Policy Analysis that one might receive in a professional Public Policy program rather than Public Administration program.

I liked the York program that you are currently in. My hesitation is the price: It’s a bit out of my range. My limit is about $12,000 (USD). The York program would cost me about $18,000 (USD).

I found another at Maquarie University in Australia. It is less expensive (a little over $7,500 (USD)), but they have a focus on policy making from in Australia and I’m not sure how well those skills will transfer to policy making in the US.

BTW, are you intending on taking both the York and Staffordshire program full-time at the same time?? If so, nice to know someone is just as insane as me. :D
