Rushmore U. has finally folded their tent in South Dakota and dropped anchor in Grand Cayman, British West Indies. Any speculation as to whether they may be contemplating the Berne backdoor method? ------------------ Bill Gossett
Cute Bill. To paraphrase Ross Perot, there is a giant sucking sound as our stellar institutions head for the West Indies. Whose next, Harvard, Princeton, ... Trinity College and University. North
Given those choices, it'll have to be Harvard or Princeton. TC&U is already in the file cabinet in the British Virgin Islands. ------------------ Bill Gossett
Two thoughts on this: 1. I believe that John proposed a pool as to when Rushmore would move and where. I think somebody chose the West Indies... but was the timing correct? 2. I think that our dear President of Rushmore, Dr. Cox, will have a much harder time stumping about the legitimacy of his organization now that it's moved to the West Indies. I seem to remember his being very offended when someone pointed out that he had a PO box in South Dakota and ran it from Atlanta... he complained bitterly, claiming to have large offices in South Dakota. Is he now going to claim that he's moving to the West Indies?
Well, that is it . . . . I lost the bet !!! I was expecting them to move to the British Virgin Islands instead. CFr
I'm fairly sure the contest was about Trinity C&U's destination and not Rushmore's. TC&U did incorporate in the BVI, but then incorporated in Louisiana as a non-Louisiana business. They have yet to put a U.S. or BVI address on the web site, so the only date we have to go by is that of the Louisiana incorporation, which was effective 23 April. ------------------ Bill Gossett
You can search the Louisiana Corporations & Trademark Database for corporation information, registered agents, trademarks, and individual names at http://www.sec.state.la.us/crpinq.htm Here's the info for Trinity, from http://www.sec.state.la.us/cgibin?rqstyp=crpdtl&rqsdta=35078817F Charter/Organization ID: 35078817F Name: TRINITY COLLEGE AND UNIVERSITY INC Type Entity: Business Corporation (Non-Louisiana) Status: Active Annual Report Status: In Good Standing Domicile Address: OFFSHORE INCORPORATIONS CENTRE, ROAD TOWN, TORTOLA, VI Principal Business Establishment: 901 VETERANS BLVD., STE. 203, METAIRIE, LA 70005 Qualified: 04/23/2001 | Effective: 04/23/2001 Registered Agent (Appointed 4/23/2001): THOMAS P. WILLIAMS, 901 VETERANS BLVD., STE. 203, METAIRIE, LA 70005 Officer(s)/Director(s): R.E. PAYNE Didn't TC&U use a Metairie address briefly? Looks as if they've removed any U.S. mailing address from their pages now. ------------------ Kristin Evenson Hirst DistanceLearn.About.com
For about four days they listed an address for a student records center. Naturally, it was a mailbox. My guess is that it might have given enough of an impression that they were operating in Louisiana so as to raise questions. ------------------ Bill Gossett
The amazing thing about the above message (and much of the rest of the thread) is that it could just as easily be speaking about MIGS, if you changed "West Indies" and "Louisiana" to "Mexico" and "Florida". Incredible.
It is. If only.... 1. They'd properly registered in Florida. 2. They'd never used "MIGS," just "CEU." 3. They'd set things up first, then advertised for students. 4. They'd hired people who knew what they were doing (and what NOT to do). The CEU could have been a postitive and intriguing subject, instead of one for derision. A Mexican/Floridian Touro-style set up might have still been the subject of great scrutiny, but it would have "played." But now that it's been undressed, it's ugly all over. Rich Douglas
