Have any of you guys had any experience with this University? I was just browsing their website linked from another post and it seems like a pretty decent university. They have extremely flexible payment options and look like a good university. They have RA which makes me pretty comfortable that they are up to speed on everything too. I wonder if they have plans on expanding their online programs as they are kinda limited in degree options.

    Tons of info on NCU

If you do a search ( upper right hand near Home) on NCU and Northcentral University, you will find countless threads on this University. There are numerous students and alums from this Uni on this board.

Personally, I have been impressed with the little exposure that I have had with them. I plan on enrolling in their PhD program this December.

    Good luck

LOL...as you were typing in your reply I was actually reading the numerous posts on NCU. I for some reason blanked out on the search function...lol...I wonder if there are any plans for them to widen their degree programs to include more majors. They seem like a really good university. Also...does anyone have any idea if I would have to get my law enforcement organization to sign up for the partnership before I could be included in the tuition discount?

    Yes.

    Contact Susan Penn. [email protected]

She is the law enforcement enrollment director. Ask her about forming a partnership with your agency and NCU. I highly recommend it.

I'm beginning my first Northcentral class in September. So far, the customer service has been outstanding and the teacher(mentor) that I have for the class has very good credentials.

I haven't even started with NCU yet and have had an excellent experience with them. I have found the staff to be very personable and helpful with all my questions. I even wrote their President and asked him a question. He responded promptly.

I have e-mailed, spoken, and chatted with many alum, students, and mentors there. All had a great experience and it helped me make my decision to attend. I can contrast that with a doctorate program I was briefly in at a brick and mortar school. They plain old didn't give a &#*& about you there and left you to fend for yourself with no guidance.

I am taking my fourth class. The customer service is excellent and I am happy with everything so far.

I would recommend them to anyone.

    NCU gets my vote

I will be starting my third class with NCU in September and my experience with them has been excellent.

I thought I was missing something by not having actual classroom lectures, so while I was still enrolled at NCU, I applied and was accepted to a B&M school’s DL PhD program. I signed up for one class [then subsequently dropped it after the first lecture due to the lack of organization and poor quality of the lecture], and then took and completed a class this past summer. My classes were delivered through video streaming, I took proctored tests at an education center, and I submitted weekly assignments via email. The required book had little to do with the lectures and the exams; I never received feedback on any of my weekly assignments; the professor wasn’t very good at explaining the material; the students on site didn’t ask any questions during classes; and my exams were not returned in a timely manner [it took three weeks for my professor to receive my second exam and another three weeks for me to get it back!]. I think the exam problem had to do with the university’s method for distributing mail and faxes because the education center [on my end] would always return exams immediately. Comparing this dreadful experience with my experience at NCU, NCU comes out way ahead.

    I would also recommend NCU.

I feel your pain on this one. If you don’t care for a business, psychology, or education degree then you are limited. I like the fact that NCU offers so many choices in specializations. Personally I could care less if I earn a business degree, but if I can earn a degree with a recorded specialization, then I’m definitely okay with that. :)

I have completed 14 courses and I am soon to be enrolled in my 15th course at NCU.

The semesters are 16 weeks but you can accelerate your studies if you wish. No set semesters and a lot of flexibility. First of the month start dates. There are no co-horts (groups) which ensures you can work at your own pace. I have found the staff to be very attentive. You get an academic advisor and a learner affairs advisor as well as a mentor for each course.

You are going to find the coursework a challenge and a lot of writing assignments. You receive your syllabus up front and work to complete all your assignments as the semester goes along. Course assignments range from academic journal article reviews, research essays, projects, exams, powerpoint presentations, and term papers. Final papers are usually from 15 to 50 pages depending on the mentor and course.

Overall, NCU is a positive academic experience. I graduated from NCU with an MBA and enjoyed my studies so much, I enrolled in the DBA program there.

I believe NCU is a great choice.

How would you guys rate the online library resources at NCU? Do they provide access to complete dissertation downloads without a fee? Thanks, Simon
