    Hi,

In the never-ending quest I share with several other people on this board to find a College Alegbra class that I can handle and that meets COSC's requirements I've come across Texas State University at San Marcos. The College Alegbra class has 7 assignments, 1 proctored exam and the cost is only $310 which seems reasonable. It is a correspondence course.

Does anyone have any experience with Texas State?

    Thanks,

    CT

It was formerly Southwest Texas State University and was well known as a party school. This would have been back in the '80s.

My Father in law graduated from there soon after his retirement from the Air Force.

Not only was it well known for its partying (which I understand is no longer its major claim to fame), but is a fine teacher-training institution as well.

I know my FIL really liked it. I have a few friends who went there after High School as well.

So it is a good, reputable school, generally speaking. As to specifics concerning their DL offerings, I can't help you out there, sorry.

I took two courses there and they were fine. They were general paper correspondence courses. Overall, it was a good experience.

    Hi anthonym:

I also am thinking of taking a Spanish corrpespondence course from them. Do they correspondence courses allow you to e-mail courswork in? Please advise.

    Thanks,

    Abner :)

They do have an email procedure, but I don't know the specifics for Spanish courses.

Ok, Thanks for the info. I will find out more. It should be pretty straight forward. The University of Iowa correspondence courses let you e-mail in assignments, which saves time. I imagine Texas State should be pretty similar or even the same.

    Thanks once again,

    Abner :)

I'm taking a discrete math course at SW Texas State.

I've found the professor and the administrative office to be very helpful and competent.

Each course is a little bit different. Some professors allow assignments to be emailed whereas others don't.

The best thing to do is to check directly with your potential algebra professor.

You can't beat the price either! I found the book I would need for the course on e-bay ranging from $8.00 to $15.00, not bad!

    Thanks,

    Abner :)
