I have a quick survey question related to "financial giving" for DL students and graduates of non-profit schools.

As a DL student or graduate of a non-profit institution, which of the following describes you the best?

a.) I am currently giving financial donations to my school.
b.) I hope to give financial donations to my school in the future.
c.) I have no interest in giving financial donations to my school.
d.) I have not given it any thought.

BTW - I am a DePaul DL graduate and want to help them as a volunteer improve giving by their DL graduates. The purpose of this survey is to see if other DL students/graduates are involved in financial giving. Thanks.

Until I graduate the only educational institutional financial considerations of importance to me is the cost of the courses and textbooks.

Interesting question! I resent my former schools (and my children's schools) calling me asking me to pledge some amount of money.

My oldest daughter went to U. Penn one year and we owed $10,000 when the year was up. In order to transfer her to a different school, I had to come up with a way to pay that off quickly. It was not easy at that time in my life! Anyway, she did not have a good experience there (though she does have some fond memories) . They called me on a regular basis wanting to know if I would donate money to them, after she had transfered to another school! At one point, I finally wrote them a letter explaining that they MUST get me off their calling list as I would never be donating any more than what we had already given them for the first year of tuition. It was a lot more than she would have paid if she went with the State school that she graduated from, right from the beginning. I won't likely donate to my own schools either. I'm a cheapskate. :) If I ever get rich, though, I will donate to Princeton. That is the only one. (I know these are not DL schools so the only relevant answer to the original question is that as a DL graduate, I will not likely donate to my former schools). Not the right attitude, I know...but even though I am a huge DL learning fan, I have always felt DL should be less expensive than B&M and yet it is not. I feel that I have paid ENOUGH in tuition and I don't want to pay more.

    I can't see donating to a for-profit school; it isn't even a tax deduction!

I should, I REALLY should, send some money to St. Martin's College (now University, I guess) since they gave me a nice scholarship many, many years ago.

Gosh they treated me well. I have never felt that my liberal arts education from SMC was lacking in any way.

I am less concerned about sending money to my law school, the University of New Mexico. They also treated me well but I have in turn worked as a lawyer for various state agencies and at state salaries and in some rather dismal New Mexico towns in the nineteen years since I took my J.D. I kinda think the citizens of this state have gotten their money's worth. At least, I hope so...

    For me, it's:

b.) I hope to give financial donations to my school in the future.

I owe my life to TESC. Without them offering me the opportunity to maximize the various methods of earning credit, I would still be sitting at square one. At almost 40 years of age, they've given me a new lease on life. I plan to donate substantially to them.

    Cheers.
