I decided I would like to get a Masters in Business Admin and a Masters in CJ. I couldn't choose between the two, so I'm getting both.

I don't think I should try for both at the same time however just in case somthing comes up that precludes me from being able to spend 3 to 4 hours a day one them, but I do like the idea of knocking off two at once.

The Choices I have narrowed down are:

MBA from NCU and then get an MSCJ from APUS. OR I could get an MBA from APUS and an MSCJ from APUS, which is less expensive and though I know APUS will most probably recieve RA, they are not there yet.

What do you guys think? Split the degrees up, take them together? Go to two different schools or combine them to one school?

    Thanks.

To me this sounds OK. I am looking at doing a DBA and a PhD together. :)

Now way can I do the dissertations together but I will have a few years to get it done. I can do the classes together, though(one from one school and another from another).

Mathematically, I don't think it makes much of a difference. You could take two classes at a time on one degree and have your sentences run consecutively. Or you could do one class at a time in each of two degrees and have your sentences run concuirrently. Just, for God's sake, man, whatever you do, don't try taking three classes at a time in each of two master's degrees. It just might be a bit too much.

Don't worry Ted, I'm undecisive, uncoordinated, a poor speller and determined, but a glutton for punishment I am not.

I'd do the MBA first through NCU. APUS may have regional accreditation by the time you're ready for them, but you're right that they don't have it now. By starting with NCU you don't risk having earned a non-RA credential.

If you are looking at an NCU MBA, then do the Criminal Justice Specialization. This way you can combine the two into one degree.

    http://www.ncu.edu/university_information/dpro_spec.asp?dpro_id=19&dpro_section_main_id=274

If you still want to two master's degrees, then I recommend doing one at a time. Take two courses per semester to finish faster and then move on to the next program.

And to go along with Steve’s advice, stick with an RA school whenever you can. APUS may be going RA, but they are not there yet and you have no idea what they will charge per semester hour once they are RA.

Ever thought of trying both the MBA and the MCJ online at Tiffin University? www.tiffin.edu

You have alot of guts and aparently much more time on your hands to think of pulling that off, but, it could be done in conjunction I assume.

I would definitely say if these are the two choices you are pursuing, I would start with NCU and have a RA degree for sure.. If APUS obtains RA, and it could still be a IF... you would not be stuck with a non RA degree. It just seems that this would be the logical flow.

Seek the specialization of CJ with NCU if that is the specialization you are wanting. A generic MBA could be obtained in many ways and even more options to come.

My 2 cents... Oh, make it 3 cents worth.

Well guys, I did give strong consideration to the MBA with a CJ emphasis, but I have heeded the advice of some that a business degree should be a business degree and a CJ degree should focus on CJ.

I really like APUS a lot and have a lot of respect for their school after speaking with one of my officers who goes there. Personally I think they are the current best value out there and the RA possibility is the icing on the cake.

As for NCU, they offer a too good to be true deal to law enforcement and have a solid offering in the MBA, thus I think I will attend there for the MBA, if I do specialize, it will be in management. I haven't yet seen if they have a MBA "general" degree.

I'm not completely against the idea of checking out CityU or Tiffen, I just sent off for information from them. I still have about 4 months or so to figure it out.

University of Maryland University College has a great dual masters program with several options for an MBA plus another masters.

Flirting with disaster... a strong candidate for burn-out and degree seeking implosion. You might want to give yourself a little breathing room with those self imposed time constraints! Afterall, you have very little time for sleep...heck just going to the bathroom to answer natures call will require you to operate under pressure as if a submarine commander....yep you will find yourself within a few months evolving into the "shoot and scoot" method!
    Good luck,

Heres a strategy that might help:

    (1) Find two institutions that offer the above degrees with 6 common courses and allow 3 courses to be transferred in,
    (2) Take three of these courses at one school and ttransfer to the second school,
    (3) Take the other three courses at the second school and transfer to the first school
    (4) complete the remaing courses for each school (or degree).

This strategy will save you time and money.

I met someone who did this for two masters degrees when I was doing my second masters.

I have a strategy that goes somthing like this.

Get an general MBA from NCU with 18 hours of elective credit in any area...match those credits to those of APUS MSCJ and transfer 15 credit hours to APUS...thus I will have two Masters degrees with 57 credits and I only have to pay for 21 credits on the second degree.

    What a happy day.

I'm trying not to enroll in both schools at the same time because I don't want to burn out too soon. I'm sure by the time I finish my second Masters I will feel "done", but hopefully not before.

    Something Similar

I have an MS Ed in Online Teaching and Learning from Cal State Hayward, am nearly finished with the postgrad diploma in HR at e_Cornell.

I want to get into corporate training (with a specialty in Environmental Management) after teaching ESL for 10 years in Asia. Before that, I was an Environmental Lab Tech and got burnt out on it, so I started teaching ESL. Now after 10 years, I want to change again-but not do lab work.

After starting e-Cornell, I found it's better to have a specialty, so I plan on starting the MPH at APUS with a concentration in Environmental Health Management.

But what I like about APUS is they have a 3 class "Professional Program," (3 classes), a post-grad diploma (5 classes) and you can complete the MPH with 12 classes and a final comphrensive exam. The Pro Program and post grad diploma count on the way to the MPH.

I may be naive in my plan, but I got curious and emailed APUS today since I couldn't speak to anyone on the phone (which is highly, highly annoying to prospective students in case anyone from APUS reads this) and this is what I sent them.

    Quote

1.) I am thinking of getting an MBA from Northcentral University at
www.ncu.edu and will be taking some courses that are the same or
strongly resembling some of the electives you have in your MSCJ (with
    no concentration) degree, such as:

    Forensics
    Organized Crime
    White Collar Crime
    International Crime

and was wondering if I would be able to transfer these classes into
your program in your electives and or major requirements?

2.) I would like to also know if I would be able to receive any life
work credit in areas such as Domestic Terrorism and Extrememist Groups...edited....etc.

3.) I would like to see if these credits would transfer to your school
before I enroll in these courses at NCU, is there any way of doing
    this?

    End Quote

I also asked them what benefit if any would there be earning both degrees through their school, I.E. could some credits count towards both degrees.

If nothing else, I may do the certification, diploma, degree track like jimwe...or consider another school.
