I'm new to the board, but I've been reading many threads and have used links to research my choices for a distance MBA. I'm prefering distance over face-to-face because of the flexibility. Here are my final choices (not in any rank order): Colorado State University Oklahoma State University (Dual Degree Option) University of Colorado-CS University of Maryland University College (Dual Degree Option) Texas A&M Commerce UMASS-(not sure which one) Norwich University AACSB is really not that important; however, if the school had it then great! My criteria is a well know school with B&M roots. My request: Calling all degreeinfo.com experts to pull out their knowledge and help a newbie on which school to attend. Maybe a Top 7 list. Sincerely, Kimberly
DL MBA DEGREES FROM B&M SCHOOLS I give you this list of of DL MBA programs from B&M schools and their websites. Sorry I didn't whittle the list down to seven like you asked but I figured I'd give you a range of options. I don't know much about the prestige ratings but I'll put a star by the names of schools that I think are prestigious. Norwich University and University of Maryland University College (Dual Degree Option) would be my last choices. Not because of quality but simply name recognition. University of Maryland University College (Dual Degree Option) is not the University of Maryland. Pesonally, I would go with Colorado State or the University of Colorado. The reason - I lived there for a year and loved it!!! By the way, I am far from the most knowledgable person when it comes to MBA Programs. Good Luck.
Hi Kimberly - I think you'll find the UMass program at http://www.umassonline.com While they have a few satelite campuses for the MBA program, the main campus is in Amherst. I can't give you a "Top 7 List" but I can point you to a comprehensive listing of about 180 DL MBA programs. Here it is: http://www.geocities.com/liu_jonathan/distance.html Good luck, Jack
What is the (BG15, 151)? I see Touro U did not get a star and Northcentral did not even make the list...what's up with that??????
1. BG15, 151, etc., means John & Mariah Bear, _Bears' Guide to Earning Degrees by Distance Learning_ (15th edition), p. 151. 2. I admitted in my prefatory notations that I'm not very knowledgeable about prestige ratings. Wasn't sure where Touro rated. 3. NCU was still in the "Other Schools" ("Unaccredited") section as of BG15 (2003) so I forgot about them. (Note: They will be moving over to the "Accredited Schools" section for BG16, which will hopefully be out by early 2006.) Also the thread-starter asked about DL programs from B&M schools. I'm not aware of NCU having a B&M presence.
There have been a few other threads about what's the best DL MBA. Try these: http://forums.degreeinfo.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=16510 http://forums.degreeinfo.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=11013 http://forums.degreeinfo.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=10299 http://forums.degreeinfo.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=9730 http://forums.degreeinfo.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=5314
UMass at Amhurst From what I've seen based on cost, quality, reputation, needed number of prerequisites and courses to graduate, reasonably attainable admission standards, and AACSB accreditation, I don't know of anything better than UMass at Amhurst.
Here are the schools that either are ranked or have in recent years been ranked by either USN or BW that also happen to have DL programs attached, pretty much in order of ranking, with my unofficial comments: Duke (very expensive, fairly substantial residencies) Columbia-Berkeley Exec Dual Program (very expensive, very substantial residencies) Emory (ditto Duke) Purdue (fairly expensive, very substantial residencies) Indiana (not cheap but not particularly expensive either, good value, some residencies) Arizona State (ditto Indiana) Florida (ditto Indiana) Syracuse (don't know a lot about them, kind of pricey) UMass (Fairly inexpensive, no residencies required, but could take whole program at satellites in Mass---BTW: I'm going there) Thunderbird Int'l MBA (fairly expensive) Denver (don't know much about them) Nebraska (good value) UT-Dallas (good value) That's about all the schools that either are ranked or have been within the last few years. All of them are AACSB, and I would strongly recommend attending such a program, as AACSB gwenerally doesn't correlate with high price. The UoP, for example, is most certainly not AACSB, yetr it costs more than many AACSB schools, such as Nebraska or Auburn. Colorado State would be a fine choice also, as would Denver or Colorado-CS. A lot of this depends on what region you want to live in. I would rather have an MBA from Colorado State than from UMass if I planned to live in the mountain time zone, I would rather have an MBA from Auburn than Nebraska if I planned to live in the Deep South.
1. University of Nebraska - Lincoln (AACSB and can't beat price) 2. Oklahoma State (still decent price) 3. Auburn 4. UMass-Amherst 5. Tennessee Tech 6. UT-Dallas 7. University of Colorado-Colorado Springs 8. Temple 9. Penn State 10. Florida Atlantic
