I am sure you have heard this a dozen times.
I searched the forums and really didn't find the answers I wanted.
    Here is some basic info:
    Live in California
    30yrs old
    Less then 20 credit hours
Interested in Business / Accounting (Bachelors then Masters)

I am looking for an Online Degree program that is Regionally Accredited. I really like Granthams program but they are only Nationally credited. I have been talking with someone from University of Phoenix but am very apprehensive about committing to this. Keep getting this feeling there is small print I don't see. They have a resource fee of $70 for every class and possible book fees depending on the instructors. Now this is all above the already pretty expensive tuition. Is this normal?
I am currently deployed over seas (till Nov) and want to expand my education so that I have a future in the 'civilian' world.
Does anyone have suggestions for good online programs, the more flexible the better but Regionally accredited is a must. I am very uneducated when it comes to this stuff. So please reply in terms I might understand. :)
    Thanks Much! :)

    Ok...that is great. BUT...

Gimminie Christmas, how the heck do you narrow that all down to what the good schools are and which aren't?

Do you maybe know of a website that might help me taper the field at least a little bit?!? EEK..

Business is fairly general. You honed it down to accounting from the looks of it. My advice is to make sure to stick with an RA school for a BS degree. Do you want to become a CPA? I think you might need RA for that now. If so, you will need certain classes that allow you to become certified.

    Try these for starters...

Longtime Degreeinfo stalwart Gus Sainz has created just what you are looking for. It's a listing of distance learning bachelors degree programs in business, with details of what they offer, what they cost, what specialized accreditations they have, any required campus visits, and details on how the classes are actually delivered to you. Check it out:

    WOW...THANKS SOOOO MUCH!

At least there is somewhere to start. There are just so many choices that it's all confusing and frustrating.

I just don't want to make the wrong choices that will bite me in the tush later. :)

Sentinel: Yes, you've got my name spelled right. You must have really dug through the archives to find that one! What a blast from the past!

Vixen32123: One way to narrow them down is to scroll between the list in the post above and this one and match your preferred subdiscipline of business to the website of one of the schools offering same. I hope that's not too big of a pain in the behind but trying to post schools, websites, and majors all in one posting thoroughly flouted the 10,000 character per post maximum limit that was imposed by our moderators.

Your profile says you're in the military. Which branch? If it's the Marines, I can offer some assistance/advice on using your TA (if that's the route you're going). Personally, I would not choose UoP, as it will suck your TA dry VERY quickly. In the Corps, we get up to $4500 a year TA. Obviously, this will go a lot further at a cheaper school than an expensive school.

My recommendations would be either LSU www.lsu.edu or Indiana University www.iu.edu. Both of these are RA, easy to work with (both have online or correspondence courses), and are very cheap for the price. LSU costs $229 per class (less than $77 a credit). I don't know if either of them have a degree in your field available (actually, LSU doesn't offer any degrees through their Independent Studies program), but they are good schools that you can use to build up credits to transfer to a "home" school when you get back to the mainland.

Just my recommendations. :) If you're down range, BE SAFE.

If this is your primary concern, then your search will always lead you back to Excelsior, Thomas Edison and Charter Oak. Each is RA, very military friendly and as flexible as possible. Since they take every source of legitimate college credit (military schools, CLEPS, DANTES, portfolio, correspondence etc.) you can always continue earning credits regardless of your military situation. At the same time, none of the three is a rip-off or shady in any way. They are generally the fastest, most flexible and often most inexpensive routes to a degree, especially for members of the military.

I have been enrolled in the PhD program at Walden Univeristy for a year now. I love it and have only good things to say for Walden. It is regionally accreditted and some of the programs are acredited in their programs or are seeking that accreditation.

I am an instructor with UOP and feel it is a reasonable good school. When I earn my PhD, I plan to seek employment with Walden as I feel it is a superior school. My biggest concern with UOP is that it is so costly. They are pushing a new format called ecad, where all the materials are offered electronically. With the new mode they are planning to increase class sizes to 20 students. As an instructor I am committed to providing my students with detalied instruction and feedback. All of their facutly are required to be actively working in their fields. Thus, we all hold full-time jobs and are concerned that with the large increase in class size we will not be able to provide the same quality of feedback to our students. As such, many of the dedicated facutly are considering leaving.
