CCU President, Thomas Neal, has been selected to serve as a member of the Business Standards Committee, which is a sub-committee of the Distance Education Training Council (DETC) Standards Committee, for the 2005- 2006 Council year.

All the better to see CCU make great strides in the NA arena!!

Dr. Tucker ( VP ) also has been added to the DETC committee if I recall.

Ah, so now a man who has publicly called me a liar (on another forum, after I reported something unflattering about CCU that his father, the founder, once told me) is rising in DETC hierarchy. They may not invite me to speak to their conventions any more. Such is life.

Speaking of insults, Dr Bear, was Thomas Neal the man you used to describe as a 'used car salesman' when comparing the President of CCU and the President of Greenwich during your presidency at Greenwich?

Not to worry, John. The glass case filled with CCU doctoral dissertations no longer exists. Since CCU no longer offers doctoral degrees, why keep the case around? :D

John: Fifteen years before my time with Greenwich, a couple of very negative articles on the school in the New York Times and the Long Beach paper, said that the founder, Thomas Neal Sr. (father of the present Thomas Neal) had been a Buick salesman at the time he founded the school. Nothing wrong with that; just not a strong academic foundation.

In the book "They Lie in Wait to Deceive" there is a humorous situation from 1981 where a noted religious figure was on the radio, talking about his California Western (CCU's former name) doctorate--which he claimed was "fully accredited" and in a subject that CWU was not authorized to offer. Another person on the program produced a letter from Tom Neal, stating that this fellow was in fact, "neither a student nor a graduate of California Western University". After the religious figure had a conniption on the air, he apparently contacted Neal, who sent another letter stating that after "detailed review" of the person's file, it was concluded that CWU had, in fact, awarded a PhD to this person five years earlier.

I am confident that the California Coast University of the 21st century has far superior business standards than the California Western/California Coast University of the 1970s-80s.

Not a pleasant thought to anyone earning a CCU degree during that time.

Perhaps Mr. Neal had a momentary lapse of reason regarding Walter Martin's Ph.D. in comparative religion............

Well, considering that CWU was never authorized to offer degrees in religion, and that Martin submitted his decade old anti-Jehovah's Witnesses book as his "dissertation", I can certainly understand why Neal would want to forget that. If I was in his shoes, I certainly would.
